Some changes in the Ring rankings after the upsets this past weekend
Ortiz debuts at #3 WW, Berto pushed down to #5
Andre Ward debuts #10 P4P replacing Juanma.....(Should have been Froch)
Salido jumps to #3 FW
Juanma drops to #4 FW
You cant really argue it short of Kessler. You just have to take into consideration the timing in which he beat Kess. Lets face until Ward Kessler was considered far and away the best SMW.
Froch is a victim of those skills. I would be pissed if Froch sky rockets after the JT fight and a gift over Dirrell that was really obvious to me.When he beat Pascal it wasnt the right timing because Pascal wasnt considered what he is now.
It clear tome that if it wasnt for this pathetic tournament Ward would have probably had that showdown with Froch and possibly Dirrell already. He took that fight with Bika outside the tourny which is arguably tougher than some of the possible match-ups in the tournament. I believe when its all said and done, if Froch is fortunate enough to get passed Glenn, Ward will take all the luster off of the overacheiver Froch. I wish people would quit calling out that win over AA. AA has never been noteworthy, and means nothing to the career of Ward now except advancement in the SS.
Never been noteworthy? He was a clear favourite to win the tournament after the first fights.
People are saying skill wise Ward is greater then Froch... on what basis?
IMO a Ward-Froch fight is a toss up
Ward has better speed, foot speed/work, defs, combinations, ring IQ, reflexes, ring adjustments. Only thing Froch has over Ward is Power, and Chin. If they fought I give Froch a punchers chance, my reason is b/c Froch can handle a fighter with speed/quickness(JT, Dirrell) he was out boxed by both Ward doesnt get tired like both of those fighters, nor does he get carless like both fighters so yea Froch gets a punchers chance IMO.
I personally think Ward should be rated over Froch, and here is why; Froch looked bad in since he faced JT tho he won, JT clearly dominated Froch most of the fight, same with Dirrell(tho it wasnt as 1 sided as the JT fight), IMO I felt Dirrell should have won that fight, a lose to Kessler hurt him in the rankings, and he beat AA which just came off of a DQ lost to Dirrell, and Ward has done nothing but win and win easy.
aside from the fact ward has been impressive, Froch not impressive until the later rounds against Taylor, not impressive in his highly controversial win over Dirrell
we have already discussed resumes but the pure and simple fact is they both fought Kessler, Ward dominated Kessler every round, Froch had trouble with Kessler and lost, regardless if you think he got robbed he had a poor unimpressive performance,
on the basis he does everything better, Froch has an edge in power, but foot work, jab, combos, hand speed is similar, ward has better defense, so far similar chins, ward is a way better in fight adapter, and has a slight edge in ring iq. Froch is a fantastic boxer, But ward is just better.
But again you have to take in consideration who has Ward done this against vs. who Froch has.
Ward may have the better skills but so far we have just seen it against weaker opposition. It certaintly doesnt justify him being above Froch in the pound for pound rankings.
Now I dont really want to get in an argument about this cause p4p rankings in my mind are pretty ridiculous seeing as they are completely opinionated. I just think Froch deserves a little more credit.

Yep, Goat will get f*cked up if he tries that headbutting **** against Froch.

he didnt effectively outbox him tho. ward outclassed him as well. it wasnt as close as u make it seem.
I scored it pretty close and there were lots of close rds IMO. Those judges cards were horrible I thought. And it was far from an outclassing but it was a clear win.
Froch is hardly slick and Dirrell was running for his life and possibly faked and injury at the end of the fight.
nothing changed through out the fight, he boxed on the outside in respect of his power, and no there no possibility he faked an injury, no reason to. its amazing some people think he wanted out of a fight he was dominating, why because he got knocked down, yea he was thinking there is gotta be a way, omg I slipped, I hope he hits me, omg he hit me, what should I do, just stay down. lol come on man. he hasn't even been cleared to fight, what did he find doctors to say he has neuro problems, these are all unlikely events
It's actually not debatable Bika was ranked #6 by the Ring at the time.
well given the fact that Ring gets criticized often for it's rankings and bias using them as a reference IMO is iffy.
I question Bika being ranked that high due to his inactivity and the fact that he
beat fringe contender Peter Manfredo in 08
beat some unknown guy in 09
got DQ'd in 1 by Mendy in July of 2010
does not necessarily warrant him being rank 6 in Nov of 2010
no boxer has, not even the great Joe cal. he is a tough as opponent and a solid name on his resume, aside from the fact he had ni choice but to fight green and Bika due to withdraws from the super six and dempsey is right, Froch may have a great resume but he hasn't looked impressive in recent fights except AA which Dirrell laid down the blueprint, any high output slick boxer can beat AA,

Bika won at most 2rds against bute and it was easy work. So ya 1 boxer has done that.

This is more the just fighting style. I have to watch the bika fight again. But that had some alarm bells going off in my head. That ward may not be as good as we thought. He wasn't that effective out boxing a guy who an elite fighter should be able to out box thoroughly. He in turn resorted to fighting bika's fight and I still don't understand why. He ended up with cuts etc and just made that much harder then it shoulda been. And that fight was muc closer IMO then the cards.
I want to see him fight in a neutral venue with proper refs and see how good he is against top level op. MSG vs the froch/Johnson winner will answer a lotta questions to me. As long as the ref is competent.
what boxer has effectively outboxed bika?
