when it happens, they get called out as overrated (Ortiz), exposed (Berto), losers (Juanma), disgrace (Maidana).
Yet so much praise is on the old school fighters. But I bet you that if we had the internet and forums back then the way we have today, fans in the previous generations probably would have been claiming the same thing on a day to day/fight by fight basis.
Imagine Hearns vs Hagler...the forums would be "hahaha, that glass bum Hearns was exposed"....or Hagler vs Leonard..."haha, Hagler got exposed by a semi retired welterweight"
We just had a couple of great fights with some drama and fans today show their excitement by spitting on these guys fighting for a living...Berto just showed a lot of heart even if his chin doesn't hold up...Ortiz isn't some small light puncher either...Ortiz just showed a will that he grew from since the Maidana fight...Juanma is always exciting and fights his best to win even if he doesn't have the defensive skills of Mayweather...
After all of this, you guys can do nothing but spit on them? And then you wonder why fighters and managers try to protect their fighters as long as possible...because you "fans" turn on them..
For those on the Boxing vs MMA bandwagon..weekends like these show the excitement of boxing and boxing's YOUNG stars...unless you'd prefer Hopkins-Jones III...but the fans don't seem to show the support for their sport and fighters afterwards...only with these types of fans, can a winner and a loser both walk away losers with boxing fans
I think its a combination of people who are really into the sport of boxing, and people who are in to boxing, but more or less just focus on their "favorite" fighter. They tend to become a cheerleader for that fighter, and anyone who is not that guy "is a bum waiting to be exposed"
Its sort of a "your team sucks, because its not my team" mentality.
My thoughts exactly. :headbang:
Great post, it's like fighters can't lose heck they can't even get hurt/wobbled because they have a glass chin. It's freaking boxing, you're going to get hurt if hit correctly no matter what kind of chin you have.
Also, like "DIB420", there are too many fanboys in here that only support their fighter and constantly trash their threats within the division.
Why can't you like Juanma and Gamboa at the same time, I do. Why can't you give props to both Ortiz and Brandon Rios, cause there is bad blood between them, who the F cares they are both exciting fighters, you don't have to choose sides to be cool. Like that there are many examples, heck I like Pacquiao's fighting style but I also admire Floyd's unique boxing skills. Both of them are boxing prodigies who master the sport with two completely different styles, that's the beauty of boxing.
Agree on all posts.
People need to post of what they saw instead of how they felt, about a particular fight or boxer. Most facts here are countered with hate.
Oh and bandwagons how they come and go.
People need to stop being so fickle and stick with boxers besides their boy. And support them even after a lose.

Don't take it personally man, the internet is full of nerds that don't know anything about boxing or have never boxed.
Berto isn't some bum that was exposed, he is a good fighter just beaten by a better one.
Fights like these are great for the sport and I'm glad boxing is back to where it once was.
Ignore these little xbox playing, living with their mother, virgins.

The Internet was created for anyone who has it to say whatever they want, so irrational hate is naturally part of it. The Internet also allows people like me who know no one who gives a sh** about boxing to follow it, and it also allows me to see fights I otherwise would never get to see, so I take the hate and don't really care.
It's a giant soap opera. In truth though, if you read MMA or NBA forums for example it's all the same. It's accentuated in combat sports because fighters fight 2-3 max a year so bandwagons are out into over drive.
There is also the good ol' boxing self hate mantra that we can't seem to escape. Way too much negativity.
Some details are nice to know...but I don't go to sleep thinking "man I REALLY hope he gets that 60-40 split he's been wanting..."...lol
No I go to sleep thinking "damn, what a great fight...they both showed a lot of heart! that's what I love"
I was excited for the great fights and upsets we've had. It shows up the sport I love so well and gives me more reason to brag about the best sport in the world. I also am a stickler for the dramatic endings.
I am pumped. If we don't get Mayweather-Pacquaio...we've been getting some great fights anyway from the rest
I agree. I think the Internet is terrible for boxing. It seems as fans we care about sh1t we normally wouldn't care about. Like who gets what or what type of gloves one fighter required or which promoter works with who. Prime example is I love manny as fighter. Dude been a problem for a while. But being on the net his fanatics made me hate him(at one moment). I had to step back and realize it's the net. People are going to say the dumbest things.
Like instead of us talking about hope dope the fights we had back to back weeks were. We talking about who is overrated or who is gay.
