I've always thought he had a weak corner since he has a non existent inside game but tonight it was a train wreck. He had his trainer trying to talk, his retarded brother who's an MMA fighter trying to give instructions and his ex pro wrestler dad just outside the ring screaming crap.
Berto needs to start being more professional when it comes to these very important subtle things.
Agreed. I had no idea wtf his corner was on about.
I sort of noticed how ridiculous Berto's corner was while watching the fight the first time, but after looking over this thread. I can't wait to rewatch, there is in round action and in between round comedy. Tbh, once Berto was completely winded and being out hustled.. It might have been in his corner's best interest to motivate Berto and attempt getting him to dig deep.
However, with that said. It's the people on Berto's team, many of whom were in that corner. That have him walking around with a build/frame that makes zero sense. Let's build this guys upper body like a mack truck and place it on modest legs? He spends all his energy trying to stand upright. Imagine how much energy he's wasting throwing punches with a body builder's body.. He needs to rebuild himself similarly to the way Amir Khan redid his physique. Berto's team lost this fight for him before they even got in the ring however what they added in the corner was also worthless.
I think it was after the 3rd round and Berto's corner said "You're a fuckin' beast! now show these people"
Super advice.
They were trying to wake his ass up and hype him up. He kept saying "I don't feel it".
It's not the corner's fault, they gave him plenty of good instructions. That **** is all on Berto, how many times did they tell him to "move and stay off the ropes".

I completely disagree.
They told Berto to string punches together and not depend on ONE PUNCH. They kept telling him that he won't put Ortiz out with only ONE punch. Look at the sixth round where he used his jab, created space, he was landing counters. Berto was flustered with the first jab that Ortiz landed IN THE FIRST ROUND.
I didn't really listen but from what I heard they gave Berto some pretty good instructions.
"You gatta move, don't stay in front of him."
"Move and stay off the damn ropes, touch his body and break his ass down."
"When he reach, you counter him, man. Every time you counter him, you hurt him."
The main thing I hate in corners and I see it all the time is when there is more than one person giving out instructions.
One thing is to give encouragement, that's fine but in my corners I'm the only one giving instructions and directions.
If my second has something to say or add to what he sees, he tells me during the round and then I can choose to tell the fighter in between rounds. You can't have 3,4 people screaming out instructions, it doesn't help the fighter one bit.
He needs to be focused on one voice and one voice only.
You mean kind of like how in Berto's corner when he was losing and his trainer was trying to give his shit instructions his little brother kept saying on the side " Be an Assassin" "Be an Assassin" Like lol, i understand he's trying to keep confidence but the dude was already getting bad instructions to begin with...
His brother should have shut the **** up and let the trainer do his job at least. Berto was dazed and confused and all he seemed to pay attention to was his brother screaming **** that was in no way helpful in winning the fight.
Also was it me, or does his brother look like Kevin Hart?

Amateur??? A good amateur corner knows a lot and gives lots of good advices. How come amateur? Have you ever heard a good and true amateur corner?? That's disrespectful.
This is true, but believe it or not I think Berto took the right approach in tryin' to lay a trap as oppose to going to work (Which is what his corner wanted). Every time Berto went to work Ortiz got the better of the exchanges.
His inside game has always sucked, he needs to fix that. Also, Berto needs to work on his left hook.
He can't box, it's simple. Nothing more training can do. Some will flow like water and some don't. Berto, being as fast as he is can't use the speed well enough because he gives away what he's doing. His movement is parted. Good fighters like Manny and Floyd flow with movement. The best example of a Berto like fighter we know very well is Cotto and every single British welterweight. They have a defense movement, an attack movement and a "go around the ring" movement. They don't flow between them. Cotto is very technical and much better than Berto but he also fails there. Very few can move all the body parts essential at the same time.

Agree, I said this to my girl whilst watching the fight, I was like, why dont his trainer tell his bro to STFU?
I kept thinking his trainer was gonna pull an Angelo Dundee on him, when he told someone in Sugar Ray's corner to be quiet during the Hagler fight.
i think ppl often blame the corner too much, but in this case i agree 100%. his corner has always been bad but saturday night was just terrible.
there was no constructive critisism or good advice between rounds just fukking chaos. i really think berto wouldve done better walking back to an empty corner, he wouldnt have a bunch of bad advice and loud retards yelling in his ear.
after every round ortiz went back to his corner and was alowed to wind down, get his breathing right, relax and listen to how he could do better. berto was walking back to the birdcage at the fukking zoo with ppl yelling dumb ****, pulling on him and whatnot. he almost looked more comftorable and relaxed when ortiz was pounding him against the ropes than he did in his corner between rounds.
His cut man or water guy was trying to talk as well. That's just retarded. You shouldn't have 3 people talking.
Ortiz had one guy talking in his corner and he was giving him the exact right advice. Keep your left up. The one time Berto got him he dropped his left. His corner man told him right after what he was doing wrong.

lmfao..............
I swear I also heard someone in Andre's corner saying "You're a beast, be a beast!". Like he was going to transform into a giant tarantula or something.
It hasn't improved because he spends more time in the club and flying around the country going to concerts then in the gym refining his skills.

wow, really? i had no idea that Berto had the Floyd Mayweather waste all my money and time mentality. If true he needs to grow up
Happens when you make over a mil for alot of meaningless fights
