Something that has me very confused, Arum says that in miami or florida there is no support for cuban fighters. Isnt his job to at least try to build him a fanbase there? I can guarantee you that a gamboa fight in Miami would double the tickets sold at least of what he regularly sells. He is making him fight in NJ,Vegas, Puerto Rico but he has not even tried to do a show in Miami. He says that in miami there is no support for cuban fighters, no disrespect but if I still lived in Miami there is no way I would go to a Yudel Johnson fight or a Despainge fight instead of going to the club, now Gamboa is a whole different animal. The Solis vs Austin Fight sol 7k 1/2 tickets you mean to tell me that Gamboa vs a decent name on hbo can not draw that or more in Miami? You have to be kidding me.
The fight for Gamboa vs Lopez though makes a lot of sense around the miami or orlando area. I lived in both cities and Orlando is really deep with Boricuas and also Miami while Miami and Tampa has a huge cuban population. Maybe arum doesnt want Gamboa to get popular, he is a smart sob there is no way he shouldnt at least try to do a miami show is ridiculous what is he going to lose? Its not like he is going to sell less tickets in Miami than in NJ, or Vegas. Come on Son!!!!!!!!
gamboa would sell more tickets in miami than anywhere else. arum is just full of shiit.
exactly he's a businessman and the reason he doesn't put gamboa fights in miami is because casino money(vegas, a.c.)>>all other sites. its none of the 2 things you mentioned.
It appears you're accusing Arum of lying about his reasons for not holding Gamboa fights in Miami. However, your explanation doesn't make sense. I don't know much about the boxing promotion business, but I don't see Top Rank getting a cut of the casino take -- especially with a relatively small-time fight.
Let's say, for the sake of argument, what you say is true. Why would Arum have to BS about his reasons? It's easy enough to say that there's more money to be made in Vegas or A.C. He does that often enough anyway. I disagree with your logic.
Why is Arum full of sh*t? He's a businessman. All he cares about is making the most money for himself and his fighters, in that order. He either believes that he can't maximize his earnings with Gamboa and Lopez under present conditions, or he's protecting one of his fighters for future profitability. Which one is it?

He has done shows in Flordia, Ft Laduerdale i think with Gamboa
Its like a 30 min drive from Miami to Ft Lauderdale, so if he couldnt get fans there, it wont work out in Miami
Arum is letting him fight in Boxing areas, Like AC and MSG and Las Vegas
yea, he did a show at a go cart track here. that's not really trying to build an attraction
Miami is a football town. If it football you can for get it. Look at the heat. They have Wade, Bron and im soft as baby sh1t Bosh. They still don't fill arenas in MIA.
They dont support berto as well either.Step ur game up florida

Well why is gamboa not fighting in miami then?If those fans would support
him,They would have more events over there. He could be fighting in
miami in august,Yet he isnt.Cuban fans dont support him.
that my whole point, arum doesnt want to build him up. they have never done a show in miami so how can you tell me they dont support them when to begin with they have never done a show there. Thats the whole point man , arum is blackballing him or something i dunno wtf is up but it makes no sense at all. Odlanier Solis for god's sake drew 7 1/2 k people to his fight with austin in miami what does that tell you. The thing is this if they are not even trying to do a show there that tells me a lot. like i said there is a lot to gain and nothing to lose.
bro gamboa would doubt or triple his new york attendance in miami that is a fact , noone can tellme that he does better in ny than in miami is common sense. When i went to nj maybe about 20% of the people were cuban i talked to a bunch of them and a lot of them were coming from the florida area specially tampa and miami

Look, this is a fact: If Gamboa was to fight in Miami, he would sell out any arena, no matter the number of seats available. Of course I'm not talking about huge football fields with 50 000+ capacity. But as Cuban said, Gamboa is currently the only boxer everyone in Miami knows. Even old people have heard his name because of the hype going on with the younger people following him. Gamboa in Miami would be a huge azz event. As Cuban mentionned, there's something wrong with Bob's attitude, maybe it has something to do with him not wanting Gamboa to get extremely popular? The only reason I'm saying this is because Gamboa's contract with Top Rank is about to get obsolete and maybe there's friction right now between them. Same situation as Donaire, Bob had a diamond and he didn't do shiet to promote him. Explain me something, how the fuk are you going to have a fighter like Yuri, who's considered by many fans as the most exciting boxer alive, and make him fight only twice a year?
Gamboa only wants to fight the bests...aka Chris John and Juanma, it's the only two names he mentions when you force him to give names. He doesn't care about those B class fighters... Yet Arum doesn't provide. He says he wants to build him... by doing what? Letting him fight only 2x/year against lesser opposition, yeah right...
There's no question, Gamboa is on the short list of most exciting active fighters. His style continues to attract new fans. Yuri turns thirty at the end of the year. Gamboa must be allowed to show his stuff against the big boys sooner, rather than later; otherwise, he would be well advised to seek a new promoter. But that includes Ahmet Oner, as well. Oner has gone on record saying that HBO isn't offering enough money to make a Gamboa-Lopez date happen. What to do?

Theres a reason why gamboa is not fighting in miami,It may be he just
dont bring fans.I mean arum is planning gamboas next fight in new york
again. When he could be putting it in miami,Where theres no tax.

cuz bob's not gonna get the site fee he wants here. that's it. he would if he had even made the slightest attempt to build gamboa. same thing he did with donaire. he just put those dudes on the backburner and didn't even try to promote them
Interesting. Don King's shows "make no dough," yet he still stages cards in Florida? King may be many things, but he's no dummy. I'm sure that old rattlesnake is making money. If King can pull a profit in Florida, I'm sure Arum can do the same. Is it possible that Bob is just set in his ways?
he might make some, but it aint a lot. more importantly, i don't think he makes a lot for everyone involved. if there's nothing else going on at the bank atlantic, why not have a show on hbo?
don lives in WPB so he has all the connections down here. he has a gym in deerfield. he's always around. this is king's backyard
arum being set in his ways was the last part of my post. he's married to vegas....then the island and then its about $.

and those of you talking about south florida has shi tty sports fans never went to a northwestern-carol city game, any st thomas game or ely-dillard. or even the canes
we support local sports down here. no matter what.

I'm not among them, as I simply don't have enough knowledge on the subject. But you didn't mention any professional teams in your post.
I'll tell you what's up since I live here and attend boxing shows.
Casino venues for FNF level shows here are the shi t. The crowds are into it, there's all kinds of hispanics down here that go and a couple whities and black folk. There's tons of gyms around and people like boxing.
the Miko, Hard Rock- great place to watch fights.
All the big fights down here since Roy-Glen Kelly (the infamous behind the back KO) have been in the Bank Atlantic at Sunrise and were done by Don King. AND HIS SHOWS SUUUUUUUCK. I've been to plenty of them and they're terrible. The arena is set up all wrong, there's too much time between cards. There's obstructions, no hype, no music, very very little local buzz. they give away half the tickets. The experience is just bland. He did the freaking Campbell-Funeka show on Valentines DAy for chrissake (I was one of the few dudes dumb enough to foce my old lady to go, now I catch shi t every year since)
If Bob actually tried to build a cuban fighter here, he would do great. But bob is married to Vegas- we all know that, his next best girlfriend is puerto rico, and after that he just looks to get greased by whatever venue is willing to give him the biggest site fee. well it aint coming from here cuz king's shows make no dough.

In response to the bold, please see my first post on this thread.
As for Miami fans "sucking," I can only speak on baseball. For many years, the Florida baseball teams have relied on New York transplants. I know that Yankee caps are a common sight in many states, but I've heard many times how Yankee fans outnumber Rays fans in Tampa, for instance.
most of the people actually going to marlins games, for the marlins are from broward and palm beach
