Basically Sky Sports is a subscription based channel. The same as HBO is a subscription based channel. Now Amir Khan was scheduled to have his fight on Sky Box Office which is the equivalent of having it on HBO PPV over in the states.
After the collapse of the undercard, Sky Sports decided to take it off Sky Box Office (so it is no longer PPV), and put it on Sky Sports 3. This is the equivalent of a fight on HBO PPV taken off and shown on its 'World Championship Boxing' (WCB) banner, so you no longer have to pay the PPV price to watch it, as it is now shown on its normal HBO channel(s).
Just so you guys didn't get confused, i thought i'd clear this up. Say for instance if saturdays HBO card had broken down and the only fight remaining was the main event (between Morales and Madaina). This no way warrants to be on PPV so Its like HBO taking the fight off PPV and putting it on under WCB. Thats basically what happened to Khan.
Hope i haven't confused anyone.
Sky Sports 1 is the premiere channel. It gets more viewers.
Makes NO difference.
Its one fight on normal sky. If he had half a brain, he'd understand that he could have used this fight as a promotional tool for the next. Like perhaps show the fight on Sky Sports 3, then have replays on Sky Sports 1 the following day.
Team Khan have screwed up. Frank Warren must be pissing himself laughing at the thought of these bunch of clowns thinking they're 'business men'.
All i know is, If Khan doesn't get on ITV or back on to Sky Sports, he's jeopardising his career. Theres no point fighting good fights if no ones watching.
I think this will flop on Primetime, a lot of people come back from the pub and stick sky sports on, push the red button and the fight is purchased..Primetime isn't so simple when you first want to watch their channel. The whole Primtime promotion and package will struggle compared to a Sky one and just contine to make Khan look cheap and Micky Mouse.
I hope the kid gets some real experienced boxing business people in to handle his sh1t as he only has one chance at this and many years afterwards to chew over his regrets.
I didn't say that, you f*cking retard. Learn to read.
You should shut up, because you're a clueless, sac-hugging, mentally limited f*ggot.
:killyou: :lol1:
haha chill out. i missed the 1 after sky sports. not the end of the world is it.
want a hug?
Team Khan have had a nightmare. Nobody knows about PrimeTime here, Khan will sell peanuts. Any skysports channel would have done for Khan, I know casual followers that would have watched the fight on sky but not anymore, they won't even acknowledge Khan is fighting.
Manchester United v Chelsea is on sky sports 2 tomorrow night
Exactly. Champions League is always SS2, as England matches used to be. There's no prestige with Sky Sports, it's either on Sky or it's not.
Nothing like showtime. Showtime is a still a proominant subscription provider. Primetime have been around for a year. They just show fights, UFC and some boxing. They showed the super 6 on it which NOBODY watched.
The channels absolute crap basically. 75 percent of the UK probably don't know what it is, where as sky sports is in like 80 percent of the countrys households.
Perhaps you can compare primetime to when top rank put shows on those dodgy ppv channels. Usually when hbo and showtime reject their fights, they go on some 3rd party ppv channel. But primetime is much much worse. Its basically non-existent.
That makes a lot of sense, thanks.
Actually, threadstarter, wazaa. is correct.
Regardless of how the channels are packaged together, Sky Sports 1 is the prestige station of the Sky Sports network. Put it like this, do you think Manchester United vs. Chelsea in the Premiership would ever be on Sky Sports 2 or 3? Exactly. Of course being on Sky Sports 1 maximizes the viewing figures, it's foolish to argue otherwise.
Not to deny their amateurishness in general, but Team Khan obviously felt slighted by the whole episode and felt that being put on the network's 3rd station was an indignity too far.

Primetime can give you the fights that Sky doesn't want, if you're willing to pay a tenner, but the production quality is appalling. Only Sky package boxing properly in this country, although ESPN and ITV can do some decent stuff too.
Khan vs McCloskey will flop badly and it'll hurt Khan vs Bradley too.
Difference is that Sky moved it to Sky Sports 3, and not Sky Sports 1.
So it's not like HBO WCB, it's more like ESPN Friday Night Fights.
Damn I was thinking more like boxing after dark not Friday night Fights
Thanks for clearing that up....we needed that. We the red/white/and blue are to busy supporting Floyd over here in the States. It's Floyd Mayweather Jr. Day today and we're rallying at Washington D.C right now. We're united when it comes to Floyd.
Thanks for the info Ishy. Now they're reporting it will be on Primetime PPV, what's the American equivalent of Primetime? Are they like a Showtime?

Sky Sports coverage is available through Sky, Virgin (cable), Top Up TV, XBox and BT Vision, as well as being streamed online. Primetime is only available on Sky or streamed online. Team Khan will regret this. If they really pushed for Sky Sports 2 I'm sure they'd have got it, but they were on a pathetic PPV ego trip. They'll be lucky to get 5,000 buys out of Primetime.
agreed i got all 3 sky sports channels ,cant tell the difference to be honest with you , i think most peeps have all 3 ..bought of primetime a couple of times but its a rip off skys way better... team khan have ruined themselves burning bridges with bskyb.. and i for one am gutted was looking forward to eventually seeing the bradley fight and love the sky build up , ringside ect

you would have to be a bit of a plonker to only get sky sports 1 or 2 on there own, sky sports 1 is 12 quid a month on its own, where as the sky sports package including 1 2 3 4 and news is 20 a month.
Does that apply to virgin media aswell?
