Its laughable really....Ppl who saw how Kirklands been rocked and dropped knew better though...Cotto wouldve beasted on him and Sergio wouldve put him in a box for good....
"everything happening too fast" is exactly what happens to a guy who's been out of boxing for that long. It's the same in football, if you ever watch you always hear commentators talk about a guy who's been injured for a long time and he comes back in a game for the first time and they say something like, "he's just not adjusted to the speed of the game yet". Same type of thing for kirkland I think, he's not in boxing shape. He's physically in good shape, but not boxing shape.
Yep. But we can't take anything away from Ishida. He did what he was supposed to and came in prepared physically and mentally. I think Kirkland wasn't prepared mentally, with the "anything can happen in the ring" mentality.
This was his third fight within 5 weeks and like everyone else, he probably expected all these fights to be easy with him being fed cannon fodder. It's understandable for him to lose his edge w/ that in mind, but that's still no excuse.
It's also hard to blame GBP in this situation given Ishida's record. Perhaps someone from GBP should have told James about Ishida's speed, because he didn't look like he was expecting it.
No matter what, now Kirkland is forced to work on his head movement and defense.
This loss can be a blessing in disguise depending on how kirkland grows from it.
Wladimir Klitschko got stopped by Ross Purity, Cory Sanders, and Lamon Brewster, Amir Khan KTFO by Breidis Prescott, etc.
Sh!t happens, Kirkland will be back destroying opponents and Arum will still never let Cotto fight him to prove who would win a fight between them.
Cotto could be able to keep Kirkland off balance with his jab and timing, but Kirkland would still be a nightmare for him. He doesn't have an iron chin, but *****s act like he still isn't bigger, stronger, relentless, pressure fighter, who has solid power and great output (sound familiar?). If you think Cotto would win easy because of what happened tonight... (fill in the blank)
yeah he'd been wobbled and dropped but it was always because he was off balance or didn't see the punch coming. When he was dropped he would get up at the count of one and then proceed to destroy his opponent.
I mean the punching power of Julio is obviously much more than Ishida and he ate Julio's shots with no trouble at all. And he ate quite a few bombs from Julio.
With Ishida it was literally the first clean shot that landed on him dropped him. And he was hurt, as he didn't recover. There is a difference there.
I think the biggest part of it is Kirkland probably underestimating his opponent.
Kirkland helped a lot with the first KD. Ishida threw the left on the button and Kirkland added more damage by basically running into it when he lunged up to throw his left.
The next 2 KD's were from straight rights and Ishida threw them fast and on the button as well. Everything was probably happening too fast for James to notice what was going on. Combination of his underestimating the opponent, not expecting the first round to be like this, and Ishida's speed and accuracy.
With Julio, he probably came in expecting to be hit w/ bombs so was prepared to take them. Like you pointed out with punches he didn't see coming, I think that was the case tonight.
Everything happened too fast and too early.
pre-prison Kirkland may be able to do it, but those 2 years of prison time clearly screwed him up and set him back a lot.
Don't forget he took bombs from Julio and ate them like candy and gets TKO'd tonight by a soft puncher, so obviously there is a difference there.once again, you're one of the few sensible heads in the boxing section.
How about Kirkland vs Lemiuex and the winner retires?
haha.
kirkland needs wolfe back imo. dude was a beast even with his chin. deff needs to get back on track, let alone work on his defensive skills.
NATAS pretty much summed it up....
Yeah but I You Tubed some of his fights last night and he has been stunned and wobbled a hand full of times in his young career. That said he didnt look like he was in his usual shape.

He did too much weight training in prison. He has 2 lbs handing over his shoulders by his neck alone.
Nobuhiro Ishida is 23(8)-6-2. only person i know on dude's resume is a loss to canelo's older brother rigoberto, and he isn't even that good. kirkland needs to work on his defense to protect that chin of his. and yeah, cotto wouldve probably stopped him as well. maybe kirkland works on his flaws and comes back better, but we're just going to have to wait and see though....
Kirkland would have gotten his sh*t pushed in vs cotto. Ofcourse, since I'm Puerto Rican, I can't say this without everyone saying that I'm nuthugging a Boricua fighter.
im mexican and i agree. cotto rapes kirkland.
LOL it was easy to see Kirkland wasn't the next coming of mike tyson. The kid was simply way to big in the upper body. Causing him to fight fighters much bigger than him. This isn't the heavyweights.... at the lightweights too much mass means ur going to get hit by much bigger fighters and wont be fast enough to react. And thats exactly what happened. The japanese guy looked like a speeding bullet compared to kirkland.

Well im mixed asian and i agree with you so there! Ha
