yeah right back then you fight Oscar and you were a star, I almost miss the kids generosity. I remember thinking it would be nice if he'd give a young guy like Mayweather a chance to carry the sport since he was on his way to retiring.
If Oscar came back at junior middleweight and fought somebody like Berto or Bradley they'd be instant stars and we'd be out of the mess we are in.
'Back then' he fought once every 2 years and the only big test on paper that he took since 2004 was Mayweather and that was a sure thing in terms of generating a ton of money.
A big push to Mayorga and Forbes? Lets not forget the universal disgust when ODLH signed to fight Pac. A lot of people thought that Manny would be seriously hurt since it looked like such a mismatch on paper.
His popularity hurt the sport to a degree towards the end. All the attention on a part time fighter. It also resulted in HBO killing their 2008 budget by airing the Forbes fight and giving exclusive dates to Golden Boy which have really hurt HBO and the sport.
Oscar could bring back boxing by returning to the ring if he felt like it. No one generate as much revenue from the sport as him. So if he were to come back, casual fans would pay attention.
There's a few people I think he could still whoop at 154 like Plasterito.
Our product is the fights and we have to listen to our customers, the fans, and give them what they want. - De La Hoya
Sure. :buttkick:

A lot of people were overjoyed to see him getting beat out of the sport. In his later years he was a part time fighter looking for easy paydays.
Boxing's more popular now then 5 years ago.

He seems like he wants to more than Arum does, he seems like he wants to get with the next generation already. Arum still has Pac fighting last generation fighters.
But will he? Questionable... Especially if Arum's still gonna be a little beyatch and only let his fighters fight each other and no one else.
One thing GBP does that can RUIN the sport is keep over-promoting guys before testing them. He should find out if they r actually good enough to be stars before trying to make them stars.
Otherwise u get Victor Ortiz... He was "the next big thing in boxing" by the time he was revealed as a quitter. And if people see "the next great boxer" folding under pressure, proving to not really be that good, or getting beat by people they're suppose to walk over, people will stop paying attention
He got lucky with Amir Khan, but its only a matter of time before Conelo gets out boxed, or outfought by someone better.
WTF? de la hoya is killing the sport, with these fake title matchups ortiz-berto, hatton-alvarez, morales-maidana, and conspiring with the WBA and WBC to give their fighters undeserved titles and title shots. it will be the death of boxing if he ever gets the UFC style monopoly he craves in order to become a billionaire
Everytime Oscar opens his mouth he sounds like a f*cking moron. When Bhop retires he should be president of GBP and he would do a great job of bringing boxing back.
