Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. (54-7, 40 KOs) today arrived in Moscow, Russia, where on May 22nd he will fight #1 cruiserweight Denis Lebedev (21-1, 16 KOs) at the Sport Complex Krylatskoe. On Thursday, Roy Jones will hold the first press conference with Lebedev. Then Jones will continue to prepare for fight in the USA.
“I am very happy to be here in Russia, I love the exoticism and adventure so I am here. Lebedev is a strong boxer, but I don’t advise him to underestimate me. I coming to win,” warned Jones.
Thoughts on this fight?
I am pretty upset over this fight... Not sure what the point of taking this fight is... He doesn't even have a title anymore.. correct?
Yeah I think Lebedev obviously just wants a name on his resume.
Problem is he can't get off or take a punch anymore, if there is even a little truth to the rumors of him droppin dough to try to reverse brain damage then he should know better.
Oh I agree... just speaking on behalf of whats in his mind.
I think Roy has plenty of money to be honest...
When you listen to his interviews, he still thinks he's got it... still about his speed and this and that...

It's his EGO.
He fights because nothing feeds his ego like fighting.
I don't understand Roy's motivation with this fight. I hate to sound like an *******, but I would have preferred a bum fight in Florida to close the show on an up note and get a payday.
Roy isn't ranked and has no business in this fight at this point.
I love Roy Jones Jr, last thing boxing or Jones fans need here is a ****ing tragedy, i'm not watching until after the fight is over and if he dies in there im not ever watching it. Lacy should have been the end.
It's like Cuat said: gotta' be about the money and probably commentating doesn't pay enough to support the ATG lifestyle to which he became accustomed. I just hope neither him nor EM get hurt.
JMM and Mosely are favs of mine that re gonna' be there soon as well. Hope they are well set at this point.

It's sad to see fighters like Roy and Morales keep going. Of course it's about money and even though Roy is making good money at HBO, he probably can't pass up a pay check.
In Roy's case, I think it's more about ego than money.
Roy loves (lives for) the attention he gets when he fights.
What he said ^^^.
Wish Roy would just hang em' up before he gets his brains irrevocably scrambled.
If he needs dough, I can't imagine him not being able to get enough work as a commentator.
He's definitely one of the best currently working.

It is what it is and I just hope he doesn't get embarrassed once again.
Well written and sadly, all true, I'm actually getting a sick feeling in my stomach thinking about this fight.
Me too, all it takes is one bad fight and everything can change forever. Hopefully Roy just gets bopped good on the noggin one time and falls like normal for him, and does not take a sustained beating.
Am I suddenly living in a Rocky movie or did Roy Jones Jr just announce he would be fighting a dangerous, naturally larger Russian opponent in, of all places, Russia? Roy is toying with his health now and it's sad to see. Outstanding as an HBO commentator, Jones clearly has nothing left as a fighter and as a fighter he clearly has nothing left to prove, yet he fights on despite evidence he should not. Roy Jones used to refer to his friend, former world champion Gerald McClellan, as a prime example of something he never wanted to become in the sport of boxing, namely an injured, brain damaged ex-Champion.
Today more than 15 years after the lights went out on him, Gerald McClellan lives in a dark and lonely place and for whatever reason, Roy Jones Jr seems hellbent on joining his friend there. This aint a Rocky movie Roy, brain damage is NOT reversible, please retire.
