according to the last census
the largest 'minority' in the u.s, and 1 in 4 kids are hispanic
U.F.C is aimed towards middle class white young people, surely boxing will be back on top simply becuase of demographics within a generation
for the same reason soccer will be a major sport in the U.S
im not from the U.S but all opinions welcome
keep dropping those kids, i want boxing no. 1 again

3 in 4 kids are non-hispanic.
SOCCER WILL NEVER be a major sport in the U.S.
Boxing will be a niche sport in the foreseeable future and has problem disseminating to the mainstream due to PPV and fights that should be made that are not made. There should have more boxing outlet say a contract with Sp1ke TV but instead you have the ole HBO, Showtime and ESPN. Sp1ke TV has young audience and is gaining ground among UFC fans.
Can we just move on from this topic?
It's been 5 years of continuous 'boxing is dying' talk yet nothing has changed.
Boxing just has a different place in the American sporting landscape then it did 30 years ago.

and this thread is a week old, i was as surprised as you this thread got bumped again

Boxing was just on a decline I guess. Here in Mexico it's beggining to get a lot of exposure that it once lost. We get a lot of the PPVs on regular TV an hour or so late but neverthe less they air the fights. People seem to be interested more and more in boxers from abroad and it makes me happy. Now on the U.S, Pacquiao vs Mosley is doing its job.
Boxing is never going to die. It's just that PPVs are making it hard for casual fans to get really into it.
The day PPV came into boxing was the beginning of the end of the sport to mainstream audience, And not every hispanic in america are into sports, Some are involve in different activities.
Its very simple, if there is a mexican super star boxing thrives... Chavez carried boxing for a good part of the 90's and after that it was De La Hoya which carried boxing... If Saul El Canelo Alvarez can become the star that Chavez and De La Hoya once were, you can dam well bet MMA will simply be a small thorn in the side of boxing...
Only MMA fags and guys who watched boxing soley for tyson think boxing is dead. In fact 2010 was one of the best years boxing ever had. And its not just hispanics, we are seeing tons of eastern european talent in the bigger boxing divisions. And now boxing has a ton of new asian fans thanks to pac.
Boxing is going nowhere, bums like berto are getting paid 1m a fight.
TBH all of my relatives and I have a lot of them are all Mexican and all the men are very big Boxing fans. They do not come on the internet and go on forums and stuff but most of them go to the Boxing gym regularly and watch HBO, Showtime Boxing, FNF, and there is always Boxing on the spanish channels on Friday and Saturday that they watch.
That just means boxing is popular within your family. A lot of Mexican-Americans I know do not care for boxing. I'm not even sure if you are Mexican though since you have another account where you say you're Irish.

You know I post here alot, in comments on youtube related to fight vids, and chats in streams.......crazy thing is I end up talking with the same few dozen ppl all of the time on worldwide media outlets, that really tells me how much of a fringe sport its become sadly.
Its due to PPVs which limit exposure, robberies, the best not fighting the best, and how because one loss can be a career killer fighters are so protected.
This.
PPVs is what kills a boxer's reputation (HBO, Showtime etc). If the best known fighters of today were fighting in ESPN which is Nationwide TV they would be more known in the US.
I am already anticipating Jose Benavidez Jr. vs. Frankie Gomez lol its going to happen in like 5-7 years probably but that is going to be one hell of a fight.
If anyone actually really thinks Boxing is going to die they are retarded.

All very true...good post, I think the sports going to have to get even worse to get better.
