Honestly i cant help but think his legacy has been wasted because he has went on too long but by god roy was the best i have ever seen as a 27 year old. The jump to heavy weight ****ed his body but what a fighter.
Calzaghe Jones is similar to Holmes/Ali, it really has no depth to it. Calzaghe won, but he should have. Roy was beyond done at tht point. Listen, I respect Calzaghe, but Roy blasts him in his prime. Matter of fact, the Roy that fought Badi Ajamu in July of 2006 wins by decision. Calzaghe was a very good fighter, but he gets smashed by a prime Roy.
People like to discredit his resume, but I dont know too many whos resume isnt similar. He doesnt get alot of credit for the Reggie Johnson, Lou Del Valle, Virgil Hill, Montell Griffin....etc. He fought champions. No one fights an atg every fight, but he fought some good guys. Not every one was a great opponent, but the guys he fought would be exceptional at this point. J.C Gonzalez would beat Pascal, im sure of that. The drop from Heavy weight screwed his chin. He took plenty of shots prior to Tarver. I dont think the chin problem was always there. But no fighter has ever been as dominant in his prime as Roy. He wasnt all athleticism. You dont box since you were 9 and have no boxing IQ. But, Roy is a great baby. Top 20 all time. Some may agree some wont, but you cant deny what the man did. He accomplished something no one did in over 100 years, that says something. Breadman from **********.com gives a phenomenal assessment of Roy. check it out.
Prime Roy would have owned a prime calzaghe. I have seen every Calzaghe fight. Roy Jones is the most talented fighter i have ever seen. The guy had skills and was BY FAR the best boxer on the planet for a decade.
Uhh...Joe Calzaghe worked him like a rented mule with a broken leg and one eye. RJJ isnt even in the discussion as best p4p boxer of all time. The GOAT dont get worked like that. Simple as that.
He was shot as **** by then.
Ya musta forgot.

In his prime Roy was almost unstoppable....once he slowed abit, his lack of fundamentals showed...if he developed an effective jab instead of relying on his amazing reflexes and speed to get away with leading with his right he could have prolonged his career imo...
A great fighter...best fighter of the 1990s hands down...

You mean most talented.
He wasn't the best.
