The nickname. Can he be compared to Leonard and Robinson? If not, does he not deserve it?
Discuss...:boxing:
Id say yes, Since he does have a similar style to SRR.Isnt that the reason he was attributed this name anyway
It's just a nickname. Other guys have had the Sugar nickname. Mosley is no Leonard or Robinson, but a HOFer in his own right.
There's nothing wrong with Mosley having the nickname. He "deserves" it, whatever that truly means.
How on earth is there a stigma attached to the name Sugar?
I wouldn't say "stigma"...it's more like "high expectations". You're using the same nickname as two ATGs.
SSM sure as hell deserves it!!! Who has he ever ducked? NO ONE!!! Always fought guys bigger than himself. If Pryor were around today, he'd fight him. unlike that other guy with the same name!
That other guy with the same nickname offered Pryor a career high payday for a fight. Pryor wanted more money.
Of course, in today's boxing forum logic, a verbal challenge in front of cameras means more than, you know, actually negotiating and signing for a fight.
Does he deserve it in what premise?
Anyone can use the moniker if they want to, and it doesn't automatically mean using "sugar" readily attributes them to SRL or SRR.
However, the stigma of the nickname will always be linked to the past ATGs who used it, so the comparison won't be avoided.

Well, exactly is stretching it. But their approach is similar. Combine boxing skills (MUCH more in Robinson's case) with awesome athletic talents, throw every punch like it's their last. And the way they throw their punches, they move very similarly. The resemblance is definitely there.
I can agree with similar.
You highlight how Robinson so much more skilled but that really seperates thier style IMO. Robinson's skill level is so so so so much higher than Shane's, and it's so clear to see even by just watching a highlight of both.
Robinson's defence is also lightyears better and different than Shane almost none existent defence. Robinson slips shots, and avoids shots much much different and better to how Shane trys to.
Robinson could dance and fight when he wanted to, could switch from fleet footed and planting his feet on the inside ripping uppercuts to the body. I can't recall Shane ever doing that.
And many other things but I won't go into that.
Like I said I can agree there is a resemblance, sometimes when Robinson thorws his right hand and left hook it looks abit like Shanes.
But there is a clear distince difference IMO. And Robinson can do so much more than Shane.
Explain.
I would say they have similar traits but to say they fight exactly the same is slightly puzzling. I think there is a distinct difference in there styles.

Also, he fights EXACTLY like Sugar Ray Robinson. Obviously not as good, but the resemblance in the ring is crazy. Robinson just had a much better jab.

Yea, he deserves it. He's a distant third to Robinson and Leonard, but he deserves the moniker.
The guy fought everybody. He beat the sh*t out of a prime DLH in only his 3rd fight at Welterweight.
He rematched Winky and Vernon after they beat him. He's been in there with Cotto, Mayweather, Collazo, etc...
He destroyed Mayorga, Margarito and Vargas.
He's an ATG imo.

Thank you sir......
Shane Mosley carried the name with pride. He fought EVERYONE, even near his 40's. He beat almost everyone put infront of him, and remember SHANE MOSLEY'S best weightclass were in the LW!!!!!
