I want to know some none biased opinions...how does this fight go down? who has the edge?...
Please no rican or cuban fan bases glorifying their fighter. Just want an honest opinion stated and bounce...
My opinion, it comes down to gamboa's speed vs lopez' power.
MAKE IT HAPPEN!
I think everything considered Juanma has faced the tougher opposition and has the greater punching power and size. We've seen him get hurt but that's not a weakness to me because he has recovered from adversity very well.
Gamboa is faster and has some snap to his punches. His speed is crazy it looks like he has roller blades on in the ring sometimes.
I think this fight is like another Bhop vs RJJ match up. Except in their primes if the fight can come off.
I would give the edge to Juanma because I believe that he has proven more as of right now.
I think Gamboa would Knock Him Out...no disrespect to JuanMa, I like JuanMa but I see too many holes and he is not fast enough for Gamboa either, also he doesn't use much head movement so he wouldn't be a hard target to find
I really don't see this fight happening anytime soon, it is so obvious that Arum likes JuanMa more and sees him as "MORE MARKETABLE" so Arum will PROTECT HIM!
Yes, it will be a great fight to watch. It will test both men.
Watch the Lopez-Mtagwa fight again, like I did. See how Mtagwa charges Lopez, how he gives and takes. Watch how JuanMa reacts. He starts by attempting to keep Rogers at a distance. Being unable to do so, he trades with Mtagwa. You're right, JuanMa hits very hard, and Yuri's never fought a harder puncher; but Lopez has never been hit by a harder puncher than Gamboa, either.
Yuriorkis's style is essentially the same one Mtagwa attempts to employ. The difference is, Gamboa is light years faster, more athletic and harder punching than Rogers. I'm not suggesting any "triangle theories" here. I'm saying, if Lopez couldn't keep Mtagwa off him, can he be expected to keep Gamboa off him? Would it be a good idea for JuanMa to exchange with Yuri, like he did with Rogers? What do you think the likely outcome of that scenario is?
i understand were you coming from.. and i watched that fight Lopez VS Mtguawa w/e.. its hard to say whats gonna happen and Lopez made some mistakes in that fight.. but like i said Gamboa its never been rocked by someone who can really hit hard. and im sure Lopez is aware of the speed of Gamboa, hes not stupid, im sure hes gonna go to box him instead of trading punches with him.. but we dont know if Gamboa can take a punch cuz hes never gotten hit before,.. so its alot of things
Solis is a good fighter, I was shocked he had the showing he did vs Gamboa. Gamboa was really impressive or Solis was way off.
Of course the triangle theory can't be used but I thought Solis would give a better showing. Once he got hit, he lost all composure.
Solis is a good fighter. He just ran into a buzz-saw that night. In the post-fight interview, Jorge didn't make any excuses at all. He was almost in awe of Gamboa. I don't think Solis had a real idea what he was in for. It's one hing to call the devil's name; it's another thing to see him appear.
There was a recent thread where the argument was made that Gamboa's victory versus Solis wasn't impressive because the outcome was expected. I thought Yuriorkis would win, but I thought his demolition of a quality fighter like Solis was quite impressive.
the fight will be a great fight to watch.. but i dont see Gamboa beating Juanma bro.. it will be tough but Juanma will win this one... we still dont know whats Gamboa made of.. his never been hit hard before and Juanma hits really hard!!!! other than that Gamboa is good but his style of fighting is going to get him in trouble specially with Juanma.

I disagree. I'd never seen Solis before, and the minute the fight started i knew he had no chance.
He fought with this hands down, static, upright, lunging punches leaving hsi chin exposed...very very crappy style IMHO... I think Juanma would have KHTFO as well...

I was re-watching some Gamboa/Lopez fights last night. Memory can play tricks on you, so I was doing some A-B comparisons. I was surprised at some of the things I saw; sometimes they went against what I thought I "knew" about these fighters.
JuanMa is slower than I recalled. He's a good technician, but he gets hit often and has been rocked a few times. He moves around the ring very well. Lopez is tougher, gutsier and more resourceful than his detractors would have you think. He's been knocked for having trouble with Rogers Mtagwa, but there are two ways you can look at it. Yes, Lopez was taken to the brink by a journeyman, but it was amazing to watch him finish while literally out on his feet. He showed great will. I was very impressed by this. In a war, there's no questioning his heart and presence of mind...I don't care what anybody says.
Yuriorkis has better defense than many believe. Some people haven't updated their data on the current state of Gamboa's "D". Here's an interesting observation: I, too, notice that Yuri leaves his head wide open when delivering a flurry of punches. However, at such times, Yuri is throwing blazing 4-5 punch combinations with power. It's extremely difficult to take advantage of the "opening" when you're trying not to leave your own head open to a known KO artist. You might say that some of Gamboa's defense lies in his offense.
JuanMa is, obviously, a very dangerous opponent. Only the haters will state otherwise. This is still a difficult result to predict. But, after making some reassessments, I'm feeling just a bit more confident in Gamboa's chances.

there are cuban fans here? i thought gamboa's fans were former roy jones fans.
i dont see how you compare Gamboa to Roy Jones Jr.. i compare him to Tyson!!!

i guess now i know why prboxingcotto hasnt posted on here! :nana:
Real Talk, Gamboa Has the Speed Advantage over Lopez, but I feel Lopez will Throw a bomb and hit Y's Chin and drop him a few times. Gamboa's been dropped by lesser opponents. But Ive seen Lopez hurt by Lesser Opponents too though
Tough Fight for both. I think Lopez's Power will be the key for victory over the speedy Gamboa
i agree. gamboa hasn't fought anyone with lopez's power, not even close. lopez by late stoppage.

Re-watching Lopez-Mtagwa, it was clear that JuanMa started the bout with the intention of fighting on the outside. Lopez couldn't keep Rogers at a distance, so he was forced to exchange. Both fighters were rocked during these exchanges. I asked myself, "If JuanMa couldn't keep Mtagwa at bay, how can he be expected to do so against Gamboa?"
Versus Marquez, JuanMa was more willing to trade. This was obviously in the plans, because Lopez wasn't forced to engage. JuanMa was rocked just as often as Rafa. Once again, Lopez showed grit.
It will be interesting to see the game plan the Lopez camp has for Yuri. I have to agree, if JuanMa gets hit too often by Gamboa, it's going to be a short night.
Remember this though, Rafa is slower, older and smaller than JuanMa. He isn't the same he was even 3 yrs ago and he hurt JuanMa badly. If the ref doesn't step in for that foul, I think he goes down.
Gamboa is another animal all together. He is much stronger than Rafa at this stage and way, way faster.
JuanMa will need to fight a very smart fight.
I think JuanMa's ability and willingness to brawl and fight will be his downfall if he takes that road.
JuanMa has great timing, he needs to use that to stay outside with Gamboa. If he chooses to exchange the way he did with Matgwa or Marquez, he get's laid out.
As far as Gamboa's D, I think he does leave himself open but that happens a lot with fighters that have such natural ability. They are so confident in their natural ability that they disregard the punches coming at them because they feel like they can just move out of the way so easily.
This is a huge test for Gamboa and it's the only fight the public really wants to see at 126, Arum needs to get this done.

to tell u the truth, i like this, they're both latinos, i would be sad for whoever lost to tell u the truth....
like its been said here, Gamboa needs to bring the pain in the early rounds to try and win, cuz if he doesn't i think he's toast...
the key for Juanma is THE JAB, CONSTANTLY, and the 1-2 and he'll be good....
