Cotto - Notable wins
KO'd undefeated Maussa
KO'd Bailey
KO'd Torres
Beat Mallignaggi
Stopped Quintana
KO'd Judah
Beat Mosley
Beat Clottey
Beat Foreman
He has only lost to Margarito (who most likely cheated in their fight) and Pacquiao (who is the greatest fighter in the sport).
Mayweather Notable wins
KO'd Corrales
Beat Castillo
Beat Judah
Beat De La Hoya (SD)
KO'd Hatton
Beat Marquez (Marquez was blown up, and Floyd came in over the limit)
Beat Mosley (who was old and coming off a long layoff)
Has consistently avoided the no1 p4p boxer in the sport Pacquiao, while Cotto fought against him valiantly.
In my opinion Cotto >>>>> Mayweather
cotto's legacy will be similar to gatti's! a history of taking punishment!
WTF do flomos even watch boxing???
cotto only lost to Pac.. and got cheated by Marg..
How is this similar to Gatti???
By the way.. I'm a huge Gatti fan..
Mayweather will leave a greater impact on the sport of boxing, and he may be remembered by more fans, but for true boxing fans, Cotto simply has the superior resume. He has never shied away from a challenge and puts a show on every time he fights. I will even go as far to say that a pre Margarito Cotto would have given Mayweather the fight of his life. Still, I doubt Mayweather would have ever fought an undefeated Cotto at welterweight. Too much risk involved.
^^^^
This, green k to you
What I was getting at is that a successful Puerto Rican boxer doesn't get the kind of top level media exposure and promotion that a successful US boxer receives. The likes of Cotto, Pacquiao and Martinez would have to achieve far more in the ring than Mayweather to reach his box office status and notoriety.
you are correct.
All a US boxer needs to do is sign with Al Haymon
fixed it...
Puerto Rican boxers have a built in fanbase. they probably already have someone to replace juanma if he loses to gamboa...

Fighting Mosley is not a good fight at all he is too old.
And Manny fighting him is an utter disgrace, frankly its his most shameful act in boxing, if you ask me.
But Manny is active, and has had some good fights recently, not amazing, so its not a big as deal as Floyd who has only fight two crappy fights since coming back form retirement.
If Floyd had fought 10 times since then, and the rest were good to great opponents, then an old SHane or an undersized JMM would not be shameful and cowardly.
This Spadafora news only confirms, Floyd plans on continuing to only fight to make money and nothing else, and this means taking very easy uninteresting fights.
And why not? He openly says he hates his fans and doesn't think much of them. And for some bizarre reason his fans think this is cool.
Yet he was the best fighter available at the time other than Pacqiauo...
I struggle to see how that is 'taking the easiest fight every single time' when damn near everyone said it was actually the toughest, if not one of the toughest fights available at the time.
But sure. He's 'too old' now. Whatever.
Spadafora fight may go away because Floyd gets wind of how badly boxing fans are taking it.
But the point is, this is where May is at as a boxer. Easiest possible fight, every single fight.
Floyd is already retired to many boxing fans, I tend to agree.
I guess were all going to choose to forget he fought the toughest opponent possible in his last fight?
One in which this website voted as the best option available for Mayweather. Other than Pacqiauo obviously who was already signed to fight when Mayweather Mosley was signed.
i cant believe that there are ppl in here who think cotto is a hofer. based off what??? who has he beat that makes him a hofer??? what has he accomplished? winning a bunch of paper titles? smh...u guys have no grip on boxing reality.
At this point. I would definitely remember Cotto's career over Floyds. Floyd needs a great fight, which he hasn't given.
Especially if he manages to win a rematch against Margarito.
It will be the fight to end the war, a classic. No matter their current stature, those two have unfinished business.

Not too sure. Our prospects in my opinion, right now, are just prospects. I've not followed WV Jr, so I have no clue as to his real potential. We have some up and comers but its too early to tell if they will be stars.

fixing it,
there's a lot of outstanding PR boxers on the come up right now, we don't replace people homeboy....
However, fighters from nations like Argentina, Puerto Rico, South Africa etc have to earn it in the ring by winning over and over again and that's how Cotto made his way.

At first I was smiling at the title's possibility but when resumes were compared Cotto's were better. If Miguel had a loudmouth and a media sensation/hype he would have been ranked higher.
Correction....if Miguel was American.
US fighters get that promotion by default because they get that automatic-hype and stardom and I'll admit British fighters sometimes get it too (particularly with Sky Sports behind them).
However, fighters from nations like Argentina, Puerto Rico, South Africa etc have to earn it in the ring by winning over and over again and that's how Cotto made his way.
Everyone who says Cotto has a better career then Mayweather are all basing this on the last few years of his career, sadly they need to do their homework.
But all those guys STILL challenged themselves, even past it. Floyd ran from boxing at his best. It's not the same...
You're speaking as though getting the crap smacked out of you adds to your resume.
Cotto fought tougher opponents. beat tougher opponents than FLoyd. if FLoyd wont fight anymore or cherrypick just to get paid from here on no one will recognize him as one of the ATG's. yeah he has skills, his defense is pretty solid but leaving a legacy means fighting the best and toughest opponents available Woulda could shoulda dont work in boxing. not because he is more skilled than the next guy its automatic win for him. skills dont always win. and its proven over and over and over..
This is complete and utter bull****.
Evander Holyfield, Sugar Ray Leonard, Ali, Tyson, Duran, Hearns, Whitaker, Jones, what was the tail end of their career like?
Think before you write such garbage.
All those guys were completely past their primes when they kept going, and still looked for top guys
Floyd entered the WW at his physical peak and spent the 6 years doing a whole lot of nothing. Apples to oranges
