I am one of them. I like Sergio Martinez and want to see this fight.
Like most fans I also have no desire to see him fight Manfredo Jr.
Pirog is a good young talent, and he has power and ability. I think he would put up a solid effort though I think he would lose pretty handily.
But be real with yourselves people. Stop making thread after thread about how Sergio is not facing real talent and is cherry picking. If there is exactly one fighter you have on your list and he has no major victories and is unknown in North America outside hardcore boxing fans you really don't have much.
You all know if Sergio made Pirog look like an amateur and outclassed you would NOT be putting Martinez in your Top 3 PFP because of Pirog's resume. 17 pro fights. No major names on it. Daniel Jacobs is not elite and is still a work in progress.
So tell me, who REALISTICALLY would Martinez have to defeat for you to give him credit and move him up to the Mayweather/Pacquaio level? Give me a short list.
Sturm is not going to take the fight.
This is why:

Well, that's his excuse. But in truth Sturm isn't going to take a fight against anyone that can beat him. How did he go through the entire reigns of Hopkins, Taylor, Abraham, Pavlik, and now Martinez without unifying?
Sturm is the only man at 160 that Martinez needs to target. Pirog hasn't done anything to deserve a fight with Sergio, other than pick up a vacant title over an overrated Danny Jacobs. In terms of actual ability, I rate Golovkin over Pirog, though his accomplishments are even less. And as sad to say as this is, Peter Manfredo does have the best resume out of the three possible opponents I've mentioned. Middleweight is in horrible shape right now.
Sturm is not going to take the fight.
This is why:
The WBA's super champion at middleweight, Felix Sturm, has signed a lucrative six fight deal with television network Sat1. Two of Sturm's recent fights have appeared on the network.

lol people are overreacting as if Martinez has already signed the contract to fight Manfredo or some other bum. The guy just had a fight not even a week ago and people are already lining up every fighter not named Pacquiao for him.
i've heard of danny jacobs, kofi jantuah and sergey tatysoyen. he's fought a much higher level of opponents.
You've heard of 3 so that = "much higher level of opponents".
Got it.
I've heard of exactly 1 fighter on Pirog's resume, and 0 on Golovkin's.
Are you basing that claim off of Danny Jacobs, or do you seriously know some of these obscure European fighters? If you do kudos...

Or Manfredo-Lee would be an interesting other fight to show, with Martinez fighting someone else like Pirog, Angulo, Golovkin or Kirkland as the main event.
I think Manfredo is a logical opponent for Andy Lee. He's a ranked contender, has name recognition and is a very beatable.
I would like to see him fight Sturm. DiBella seemed positive that it could happen. A more proven fighter and established champion. And for the wank factor of that fight. :wank:
Pirog, Angulo or Kirkland would be good with me.
I understand what DiBella is saying about wanting to get him a big fight with Pac/Mayweather/Cotto. He deserves it.
Fuk Manfredo.
Andy Lee's people have said he's not ready.
That might be a non-starter
When would he be ready? :haha:
Yeah, he may not be ready but a title shot and a chance to fight one of the best fighters in the game doesn't come around too often. I say take the chance, take the $$$, and make the best of it...
at the moment pirog is better. he's beaten the better fighters and he's been on hbo. fight makes more sense right now.

I think if DiBella pitches Manfredo as an opponent they may counter with Andy Lee. After watching Lee pull out the gutsy victory last Sat, I think he's a viable stay busy opponent; much more so than Manfredo...

Are you sure Pirog is better than Golovkin?
