Boy if this isn't a prime example of how boxing fans are never satisfied and are always gonna come up with unreasonable bullcrap to criticize a fighter with! Sergio dominates the best fighters at 154-160. Knocks out an obscure but skilled champion and now he's ducking another obscure eastern european who has one quality win over and untested prospect? What the fuk are you people smoking? I mean God forbid Sergio actually wants to make good paydays from his fights and not spend the rest of his career fighting obscure easter european fighters that are largly unknown even in their own country for marginal money.
Seriously those of you who think he's ducking pirog I can sum up that entire statement with this http://reeelapse.com/images/smilies/wank.gif
Martinez will beat anyone he faces. I knew he was gonna blow up because he has the charisma, skill, and fan friendly style required to become a superstar.
Pirog gets schooled.....he doesn't even have 20 fights under his belt. Martinez by stoppage- you know he is going to go for the KO in every fight from now on.
If only HBO gave Dmitry Pirog the same chance they gave Martinez. I just don't see why they dislike Pirog so much.
hbo wanted pirog back on but they didn't have a fight for him. the only middleweights they have are martinez, pavlik and williams. martinez wanted none of him, pavlik was a drunk/moving up in weight, and williams wants a softer touch coming off a loss. hbo certainly isn't gonna let pirog fight a soft touch like dzinziruk or manfredo. he's not in cherry pick mode. he's still in matched tough mode.

That's a different argument. I would like to see HBO give him his shot. But, his promoters should also be trying to build his name on SHOWTIME and ESPN as well. He simply seems happy with that one big fight and now just keeping busy. I don't see the logic in that.
None of you dumb fuks knew who pirog was. He knocks out a guy who most thought was overrated and now your guys are saying serg is ducking pirog? Out of all the fighters being called duckers its maravilla?
All these internet warriors are never satisfied no matter what. It makes me wonder why they even watch boxing if all they do is bitch about every fighter no matter what.
do some people even watch boxing? several people have mentioned how santos beat margarito twice. the first fight ended in a NC in the first round. the second fight was a controversial split technical decision that santos won in puerto rico. i had margarito winning that fight as well.
The best way to determine that someone is ducking someone is easy. First, the aforementioned "ducker" fights and puts on the performance of his career. Then, right after the fight, look for a fighter that could give him problems. Then, when his promoter says that he's not a big enough draw, assume the fighter is ducking the fighter.
Use your heads, people. That's obvious.
If you don't fight fighters back-to-back, then you have to assume they are ducking.
Don't worry about the fact that Pirog isn't a big enough draw and has only had ONE noteworthy fight. Don't worry about the fact that Pirog should just keep building his name like Martinez did and then make a huge fight in a year in and a half. Don't worry about the fact that Martinez has big-money options coming up.
No.. Don't do that. Just assume he's a ducker. That's what a scientist would do, you should, too.
First of all, never heard of them. 2nd of all was that at 160? Ok then.
*CASUAL FAN ALERT*
You seriously haven't heard of Santos? Ok, he's never been a megastar, but the dude was a serious name at 154 for years, beating Margarito twice. I don't expect every boxing fan to have seen him fight, but not to know a fighter like that is bizarre to me if you consider yourself a big boxing fan...
the only thing that is the reality for pirog not getting his just due, is his obscureness.
he has a good record, he's fought tough guys, most of his fights have been against guys with winning records and he sparks guys out who can't hang with his power.
he handled jacobs like with ease, hell, with the way he cracked jacobs and sparked him out, it was like man verses boy.
i want to see more of pirog, obviously, but, a basic and flat out fact, pirog needs a couple more US tv fights in order to get his public interest up, which would create a demand for him against martinez or anyone else that people would want to see him fight against.
power wise and will, i would give pirog a chance against martinez, but overall skill and boxing talent, martinez is head and shoulders above pirog, i think a fight between them when things are set up right is a instant classic......
i'm for it, it just needs to be set up properly, for the sake of the fighters and the fans, it would be sad if a match up between the two were a small promotion fight and not set up for a big fight for millions to see instead of smaller crowds and smaller tv audience..........
Exactly! Couldn't of said it better myself!

You don't want to see that fight?
The fight is fine but all thats gonna happen is if Martinez wins he's gonna just going to be accused of fighting limited easter europeans who haven't beat anyone.
Before the Dzinizeik fight all everyone said was how good he was blah blah blah and now that martinez won all anyone can say now is he's ducking pirog and Sergi was overrated and too small. Nevermind Sergio won the title less than a week ago!
A pirog fight is a lose lose situation. He takes the fight and wins nobody will give him credit and will just call pirog green. I want him to fight someone that Boxing knownothings can't magically dismiss as an easy win or a lucky punch!
Ok, so you ok with him looking for money fights instead of fighting competition. I mean isnt that what we sh1t on Floyd, Pac and Andre berto for?
Pac does it all the time because he earned the right. What's the difference?
Pirog has done more to earn a fight against Martinez at 60 than Drinzurik has done. And he KO'd a undefeated fighter who was a top prospect. I bet 99% of the people here can't name one fighter Drinzuirk has KO'd let alone beat.
Ugh Daniel Santos and Joel Julio ring a bell?
It's because Pacqiauo and Floyd 'fans' can't take that someone else is currently in their leauge or is a threat to them.
The same thing was happening with Paul Williams.
It's quite pathetic.
