As many of you know I work for Everlast and one of my newer clients was Chino Maidana. We have had some good success with Chino and he liked our new MX glove so save for fights in Argentina (where he has to use Corti) he fights in Everlast in one form or another
so when the Morales fight was announced I reached out to Sebastian C. who advised Maidana asking him what Chino needed and which Everlast glove he wanted for this fight. Sebastian told me that Morales made him choose Winning gloves for this fight or no fight at all. I reached out to people at Golden Boy and they verified that Chino could only use Winning fight gloves on April 9th.
so while I do think Maidana has enough power to overcome that it does not help his cause to fight in a glove that is aimed more for protection than to damage infliction
there was an interview with maidana at the morales press conference a few weeks back and maidana said he doesnt care what kind of gloves he wears.
maidana would fight in oven mitts if he had to
Yeah I told Luis to ask that to gauge Chino

Yeah so much for being a warrior. Not even Floyd the "runner" with fragile hands that mess up all the time, asks for such gay demands like making his opponents wear pillows.
well at least he is not making a guy move up two weight classes to fight him
I have to believe for the same reasons he chose to use winning for fights with Manny and Barrera and just about everyone else. He wants to minimize as damage as possible both to his hands and to his body.
The only fights I have seen his opponents in anything other than Winning are the ones where he wasn't either the bigger name or the champion (Jesus Chavez, David Diaz, Manny after the 2nd fight)

That's good, now all Morales needs is headgear and we have a fair fight. By the way I mean that :)
Lmao yep, that's all that's missing now. I think he'll also need a force field.
What? I need proof!
:boxing:
In seriousness, thanks for the insight on this post though E. This is interesting to say the least.
He does work for Everlast! lol
They are made with a softer leather than the Reyes. We use a planchata leather which has been stretched and softened then dyed to the colors of the gloves. This makes the contact surface more pliable causing the glove to stay on the skin longer which results in more damage. We also use a mix of horse hair and foam which gives it less protection but more impact
Reyes uses kangaroo leather which from what I have seen is a bit thicker than our leather. They also use horse hair and foam but there seems to be more padding up front.
we switched guys like Rios and Donaire to this glove and they swear by them.
We tried with Arreola but IMO using the MX above say 168 is a risk because they hit hard enough not to need the benefits of a punchers glove. He hurt his hands in the process and I won't allow him to use the MX anymore.
This is great info.
It's good that NSB does have some great posters knocking around with insight that most of us (like me) wouldn't know.

You say "reached out" too much. It sounds ghey. Just sayin'...

thanks, very cool, sounds like you will do great things with these gloves.
Why does Morales insist on Winning? Does he have hand problems? Not that it should matter what glove Maidana uses.
