I will be shock if martinez will fight someone bigger than him even if it is at catchweight.
Are U trying to say he's never fought with anyone bigger??
I would favor Martinez ... he's a fighter that knows how to move around and would be able to stay away from Ward's clinches. The weight would have a lot of influence anyway ... Ward at 162? he's 6'1 so I don't know how hard he could punch at that catcweight, especially because he's not even a hard puncher at 168.
Ward wins, not sure if he could get down too 162 now anyway and Martinez has no business above 160 imo
i don't know, i wonder if what that guy said about him walking around at 180 is true. if so i think he should fight ward at 168
If Ward doesn't have problems with weight, I think his style is the type that would beat Martinez. Combine that with Ward's own physical talent and I'm picking him.
There are still fights out there for Serg at 160
ATM, there are still fights out there for Sergio to solidify his standing at 160 and his p4p climb.
Kirkland and Angulo are two of them. Pirog and Lemieux are there, too. And once the Super 6 is over, there is at least Arthur Abraham if they can get him back to 160.
All those are barnburning matchups. If Sergio is truly the new people's champion, he should try to get some of these fights in. He doesn't need to get to 168 yet.
Win or lose in the tiff against Mosley, Pac should take heed. It should never be all about the cash, Manny. Not if you want to remain the face of boxing.
true, question is how martinez will handle those added weight... will he have the same speed? same power? same reflexes?...
only pavlik is the true middleweight that martinez has fought so far... williams, sergei, cintron are not middleweights... i'm also curious how martinez will take the punch of a true 168...
I think with this match up we need to put aside how good we think these two are and consider two things:
1. How does Ward do against southpaws?
Ward does not have many world class southpaws on his resume. In the amateurs he faced plenty but in the last couple years he doesn't have much experiance with the unorthodox stance.
2. Is 168lbs too big for Martinez?
Remember just recently he was a light middleweight and aside from the lethargic Pavlik, his big wins at middleweight has come against light middleweights or ex-welterweights, Dzinziruk, P. Williams, and Cintron.
Food for thought for the true handicappers out threre.
Ward all the way! This fight will not even be close!!! Martinez is just another flavor of the month just like Saul Alvarez?! Ward will B!tch Slap Martinez all over the ring and make him go down on the floor in all four's for a little back entry loving?!:bounce:
Martinez is better then the flavor of the month..Dude has skill and power,if he carries his power up with him he can really do damage to Ward..
