How many fights did Rigo have when he went for a belt? 6? The whole excuse about 17 fights is a crock because the dude is already seasoned by the AM's. If you want to use that excuse that's fine but the guy isn't getting any younger. What do you want, Pirog to be 37 before he steps up? The dude has no career as a world class boxer if that's the case.
Fighters don't chart their lives careers out based on a calender that pleases you, dude. Nate Campbell didn't go pro until he was 28 and became the unified lightweight champ. Pirog has ran his career in a way that works for him, from the amateurs (230 amateur fights) to going pro, fought his way up the rankings and won a vacant title.
As for fighting top ten middleweights: Why don't you link us to some articles showing Pirog turning down fights with top ten guys? Lou DiBella strait up said "No" to making Martinez-Pirog when Martinez's possible two other opponents were also no-name Eastern Europeans.
The dude's career is going really well so far, why are you hating?
Yes, the belt was meant as a gift for Jacobs since everyone was expecting Pirog to lose. But here's my point: He only has 17 fights, won a belt, and has been calling out Martinez, but yet you still insist that Pirog isn't trying to step it up.
I don't think Dzinziruk looked bad at all, it's just Martinez is just so good. Dzinziruk did land some decent shots though, and I hope he gets some fights here in the next few months. I enjoy watching him and I still thinks he creates problems for everyone at 154/160, he just isn't going to beat Martinez.
The sooner people realize that both Mayorga and Dzinziruk were just tuneups/showcase fights for Cotto and Martinez respectively, the better.
Common sense prevails!
your right but the man had real skill who was game and in his prime, the problem is he was facing martinez.martinez pretty much beat the crap out of a contender so that makes it a solid win.i wont take anything away from martinez because it was good win
It is a good win no doubt....not like some people are saying though.
If beating a prospect makes you a top fighter in boxing, that's on you. I'm stating facts. Pirog is in his 30s. Pirog has yet to fight a top 10 fighter in his division. You on the other hand spit vile nationalistic bull****.
You even wrote it yourself, yet. Fights arent always made with the click of your chubby American fingers. Of course Pirog is going to step up..theres no point in getting angry about it on the internet.

You seriously think Pirog isn't getting big fights because he doesn't want them? He's an unknown Russian and HBO isn't giving him any support. You make it sound like it's easy to get a top 10 fights and that Pirog could choose to fight anyone he wants. I think Pirog should step up too (not against someone like Martinez though), but him not stepping up isn't do to a lack of trying. He's an unknown commodity.
Dzinziruk is a good fighter but only got the shot, as has been mentioned, because Gary Shaw had made a deal with HBO to get him on HBO while negotiating another fight (Bradley/Alexander?), and HBO had nowhere else to unload him.
Martinez got stripped of another belt because of this mess, HBO would accept no other opponent. The least we can do is give him his props for making the best of being handed another **** situation and putting on a great performance.
Look at a dude like Pirog for example who is 32 years old and yet to even fight a top 10 fight,.
Pirog began his pro career 5 yeas and only has 17 fight. How the **** can you possibly expect him to have gotten the attention of a top 10 fighter? I didn't realize it was so easy to get fights.
yet a lot of people on this site will claim him as a top fighter in his division
I agree with this part though. He hasn't proven himself yet and people want him to fight Martinez. It's ridiculous.
he beat joel julio in his prime who had hbo backing and a lot of hype when he became dzinziruk's mandatory
his win over santos was overrated because santos didnt do anything in that fight
dzinziruk's a very accurate punching boxer though, the way he tagged martinez in round 6-7 was the way he usually disposes of his opponents
To be honest most Eastern European fighters are strictly hype. Majority of them are well into their 30s and most of them have very limited amounts of fights against rarely world class opponents. People mock American fighters but they are leaps and bounds more experienced and are always fighting world class fighters. Eastern Europeans really need to step up and start fighting world class opponents. Look at a dude like Pirog for example who is 32 years old and yet to even fight a top 10 fight, yet a lot of people on this site will claim him as a top fighter in his division.
There isnt 1 American in the top 10 middleweight at the moment...
As I said when I watched the fight last night Martinez is a beast and he hits hard as hell but I just dont think Dzinzurik is proven. Seriously who has he fought ....the immortal Daniel Santos.
lol it's amazing how a man who struggled for years to get recognition and big fights, finally near the end of his career gets the big fights and wins is now getting his first bunch of haters lol.
People act like he was this ninga master boxer. He was coming up in weight and his best wins are against C class opposition. Am I wrong?
no need for excuses man, Martinez has the boxing world on lock down. Dzinziruk beats anyone else last night, he just got outclassed by the best in the world.
Dont get me wrong Martinez did a great job out jabbing him. This didnt necessarily prove much to me it was kind of expected. Martinez was already in my top 3 but he didnt stop a locomotive.
He was a pretty big jr.middle to begin with and has the boxing skills to beat a lot of middleweights. Martinez crushed him and he should get full credit for that win
