A old true 154 fighter he gets **** for it.
This fighter isn't the same anymore but you can't deny he decided to just box the whole way and pick his shots. People on here are hyprocrits. Mayweather gets a pass but Cotto doesn't. Hilarous.
Yeah but you seriously can't say JMM skillset will ever translate above 140. To think so is simply delusional. And he gave Pac trouble at 126 to 130. Not at 140 or above. JMM is a great little guy not big guy and hell even look like **** againest a decent contender at 147 just cause the weight. Mayorga is a true 154 fighter who rehydrates a lot after weight ins. Should Cotto KOed him earlier? Yeah. But realize Cottospower doesn't translate to 54 as it would to 47 anymore. But he still almost got him out ofthere while putting up a dominant performance. See what I mean?
disagree. Its not just a size thing. JMM looked way better against Floyd then people think. Floyd is just the worst matchup in boxing for him. If he fights alot of other guys at that weight then he gives them hell, including Pac
Jmm gave Pac the best two fights of his career and was p4p #3 when he fought Mayweather.Cotto fought a fighter in Mayorga who looked shot 5 years ago.remember a washed up dlh koing him.and by the way Mayweather gets a ton of sht from fans about that fight.
is this the same washed up oscar that took mayweather down the stretch in a boring controversial split decision...

I certainly didn't give Floyd a pass for 1) choseing to fight Marquez 2) forcing Marquez to move up over 2 weight classes to a catchweight 3) not even make weight or even try to make the weight 4) not ever hurt Marquez and was running from Marquez for the majority of the fight.
And I know alot of people on boxing sites and ESPN felt the same way as I did
When Floyd takes a vicious beating then quits, followed by another beating in which he is handed a gift and another serious beating in his hometown, followed by being fed at a catch weight to an alleged drug abuser who just so happened to once again not test for the fight and resulted in another beating of massive proportions, Followed by a give me fight for a paper title VS a one legged man who wasn't allowed to quit the fight, Followed by a horrible showing VS a clearly shot fighter who was still able to easily hit him and land 40 more power punches.
When Floyd does that and gets a pass then he will be on Cotto level, until then Floyd is WINNING, he actually has D and doesn't take a beating as a form of defense.
The sad part about this whole situation is how delusional Cotto's fans are, there not gonna be happy until the guy is dead, while he may take these fights he no longer has the skill set or mental to endure what it takes to win the big fights, Even Tony who isn't p4p himself now would still be a nightmare for Cotto or Sergio who may kill Cotto at this point. Tony is where the money is and is better fight for Cotto simply cause Tony may be as shot as him now and with that eye still covered Tony could be at a disadvantage himself from the damage he sustained. Bottom line Cotto is no longer in his prime despite his age, any fight that involves him will need to be made carefully, Mayorga getting to him like that was not a good look for Cotto's future prospects. Honesty? Anyone?
Amen to that.
What's important to me was that Cotto was still trying to take Mayorga out up to the last round. Cotto could've just coasted the last few rounds if he wanted, but he kept looking for shots even though he knows he was risking getting caught.
Yeah we expected Cotto to take Mayorga out a lot sooner, but to be fair we didn't expect to see Mayorga in that condition either.
I'm sure a lot here expected Mayorga to gas out in the middle of the fight. But fair credit to him he came in pretty good condition.
Like you pointed out with Floyd, it bothers me that even though he thoroughly outclassed JMM in their fight, it didn't look at all that he was trying to take him out of there.
JMM even spoke, acted, and looked like he just got out of a sparring match afterwards.
