How much of the Klitschko brothers success is due to their size?

THis is a horrible thread. And Im supposedly one of the biggest Klitschko haters on this site. THe Klitschko success is due to their excellent coordination and balance. There are not many athletes 6'7 and 6'8 that can move like that.

The Klitschkos are so dominant because they have excellent boxing skills, amazing athleticism, very high boxing IQs, great punching power, etc. If size is all that matters, then the top heavyweights would be Marcellus Brown, Julius Long, Jameel McCline, Nicolay Valuev, Michael Grant, Tyson Fury, Ray Austin, Evgeny Orlov, Alexander Dimitrenko, Tye Fields, etc. All of them are bigger than the Klitschkos. Arreola KO'd McCline. Vitali dominated every round and KO'd Arreola. Chambers dominated Dimitrenko. Wlad dominated every round and brutally KO'd Chambers. Chagaev clearly beat Prime Valuev in impressive fashion. Wlad dominated every round and KO'd Chagaev. and there are many more examples..... I know this poster is a big Klitschko fan, but a valid point is made here. Wlad has a great jab, very good power (right hand and left hook), decent footwork, is well conditioned and has a solid defence. Vitali has an awkward style, good power, good defence, very good chin, and very good stamina. Both show composure that comes with experience also. List the qualities of other heavyweights and you'll be doing well to tick as many boxes as the Klits do. If they were 6'2 they'd be small heavyweights. Would their fights be more competitive? Probably. But they'd still be arguably the most skilled HW's in the world and definitely be holding/challenging for belts.

I was thinking about this the other day funnily enough, it must play a major part in their success but you can't fault them for that, it's genetics.

Lennox Lewis is pretty much the same size. Wlad is a inch taller but Lewis had 4 more inches in reach. Both had an avg weight of 240+ in their primes.

Obviously both Klits have great skill but there size makes them even better. I think pretty much everybody they fight goes into the ring scared of them, kind of like George Foreman back in the day.

alot is due to their size but also the HW division isnt that good. there has only been a hand full of HWs if that many that i though would give the klits trouble

well, if you mean 'would their styles work if they were shorter', then of course not. but take a look at other fighters their size and ask if theyre as successful...its an obvious no. they are EXCEPTIONALLY good for big men, who are usually uncoordinated and have bad technique.

The Klitschko's are two of the most skilled modern day Heavyweights. They're both so physically imposing. I think a lot of their opponents have lost the fight before they step in the ring. Wladmir's fist is almost as big as Haye's head lol. How much do you think their size aids them in their fights? Well, I agree that they are very imposing. Both have huge "advantages" before they even step in the ring. However, a faster guy would have the same type of advantage. And a great short fighter knows how to make his lack of a size an advantage, as well, by getting inside and working the body. So, it's all about what you do with what you have. Both Klitschko brothers have done that.
