I am a Cotto fan. Watched the weigh-in, and first thing I must comment on is Mayorga is in shape. He also has the ultimate "puncher's chance". But, after seeing Cotto walk off, I ask the question...Is the "stare-down" a part of boxing's unwritten code, and it should be respected by all boxers? Or is Cotto's ploy a smart move?
I'm guessing Cotto won't be looking at Mayo during the pre-fight instructions.
He'll likely be looking up at the lights or down at the canvas.
I's going to be funny to watch.
I didn't even think about the refs instructions, that should be awesome. I didn't know mayorga still had fans, thats cool.
I'm probably not going to watch the fight, I'm not going to buy the fight, and I don't usually stream unless its a total joke card, and i think one can make an argument that this should be a ppv, not a 59.95 ppv, (i'm thinking 29.95) but its on the edge.
Will this be televised a week from now?
hopefully if shennanigans insue someone will post it on youtube and it won't get taken down.
MAyorga was probably thinking of what he was going to say to Cotto all week...and he didnt get the chance....would piss me off !
Haha I was thinking the same thing. Mayorga probably had some real bombs to drop and Cotto just said "eh, you're not worth it." The ref's instructions tonight should be funny.
No, he is absolutely wrong...Cotto is not scared, Most every boxer that enters the ring is not scared, a healthy concern, yes, but not fear, less they woudn't be fighting! Duh.
Cotto will win. Guaranteed. Mayo is a 6:1 underdog., at least in the bet threads here. i couldn't get one big decent (small-odds) bet on Cotto. Everybody know he's going to win.
Agreed,cotto ent scared for shit
fay is right. cotto is definitely scared. this is going to be
mayorgas best performance since the vernon forrest fight
cotto picked the wrong opponent ...

Cotto already did all the face-to-face stuff a month or so ago. I'm sure he's tired of the b/s.
Re. Mayorga being in shape, how can you tell?
I know...compared to what? He looks ok, that's about it.
The lack of a staredown gives me almost nothing to make baseless predeterminations on.
Cotto already did the staredown...i watched it, he tried to make Cotto flinch...Cotto barely moved...a natural reaction. Anybody would flinch, especially with a dick like mayo, who might actually try to slap Cotto...lol.
There has been a lot of talk over the past couple of days. Steward said the key to beating Mayorga is not trying to block his punches but making him miss so you can catch him when he's off balance.
Cotto was talking about how it's nice to have Steward in camp focusing on boxing, because he wants to get out of the game without getting injured again. And he said he could retire at any time.
Mayorga, on the other hand, said he's going for the early knockout because he wants to stop Cotto faster than Pacquiao did. If he does, Mayorga and King want to make a fight with Pacquiao -- since King and Arum are buddies again.
Add to that the fact that Mayorga is the naturally bigger AND taller guy, and that Mayorga is reportedly in very good shape, and I think Mayorga very well could win.
I can't tell where Cotto's head is going into this fight. And Mayorga's really been playing mind games with him. Cotto wouldn't even do a staredown with him the other day or at the weigh-in. IMO he didn't because he didn't want to look "up" to Mayorga.
Cotto's only 5'7". I can't picture a smaller guy like that stopping Mayorga. Oscar and Trinidad were a shade under 6' and made Mayorga look small. And I can't picture Cotto playing "bullfighter" successfully for 12 rounds. Because Mayorga is going to be boring in.
I think Mayorga has a real shot at winning.
Can you imagine if Mayorga and Pacquiao fought? Wow.
I respectfully disagree... he does have a shot at winning yes, but a "real" shot...well just look at the odds for this fight. I couldn't even get one decent bet! Cotto will win, might not be easy, but he will.
Mayo is too wild and crazy. Cotto is much more refined, focused and experienced. Much smarter in the ring than Mayo. His anger is going to make him fight stupid and he will lose, imo.

I have to say in all honesty, I felt cheated at the weigh-in. I can see Cotto's point of view, don't give in to Mayorga, but the stare down? Cotto is known for being like the terminator, ICE COLD. And I will reiterate, I am a huge Cotto fan. But as others have said, we watch the weigh in for the most part for the stare down! That's what I was waiting for! Especially with Mayorga involved! Cotto should have just stood there, stared him down, regardless of his opponent. I could be wrong, but I felt a bit robbed.
Sorry you feel that way, personally i think it was very smart and classy of Cotto. After all, he's the man! Mayo is all mouth and has been dissing Cotto, and one of the best ways to insult somebody is to ignore them...lol.
