This is general question...hoping for educated and intelligent posting and discussion.....
Elite Fighters....we place this title to a select few....and each fighter with this title has his following of fans. I was looking up records for some of these elite fighters (boxrec) and stumbled upon the following....
Almost all the fighters we call "elite", have faced no more than 1 or 2 other fighters who have undefeated records...most of the time, this has happened in the earlier stages of their careers...
99% of all fighters we call elite now have at least 1 blemish on their record...the other 1% fall Floyd or "untested" (Berto/Bradley/JuanMa)
Don't really know if what I'm trying to say is getting put into words correctly...but hopefully there are fans out there that get where I'm trying to go with this....
So is there really such a thing as an "ELITE FIGHTER".....or is it time to go home, have a cold one and throw on the "Roy Jones Jr Greatest KOs" dvd?
Don't expect too much, don't expect too little. Just enjoy it for what it is, boxing. When there is that 'elite', it will be special, otherwise it's still very talented. I think the few mentioned already are 'elite'. Also we got a few guys who haven't fully come into their game yet but give it time and don't fall into this BS(not BoxingScene!) of classing elites etc. I think there is some very good fights coming I couldn't care less about Mayquiao(well I could, but there's so much more to watch)
Having blemishes on your record doesn't prevent you from being "elite".
To be considered elite you need to face other elite fighters - if you do this often enough then you will lose at some point, no matter how good you are.
Exactly....I created a thread some time ago on that topic...
These fighters that we call ELITE...all have Ls on their record (save for Floyd)....

There are only five elite fighters in the world right now IMO:
Manny Pacquiao
Floyd Mayweather
Juan Manuel Marquez
Wlad Klitschko
Vitali Klitschko
Sergio Martinez, Nonito Donaire, Andre Ward, Amir Khan, Tim Bradley, Juan Manuel Lopez, Yuri Gamboa, and some others I'm sure I'm forgetting are all a couple more impressive wins from joining that list, and the Klitschkos need to beat Haye if they actually get to fight him or they will be removed from consideration.
I completely agree
Those are the only fighters that can be called "elite"

I would take Bradley out of the "untested" category. He's been taking on tough opponents and showed plenty of heart in comming off the canvas to win.
I see what you mean though. Elite is relative.
Jose Miguel Cotto is not an elite fighter and was a blown up lighweight yet he almost knocked Canelo the fukk out in the first round.
you really don't like the ginger huh

Neither fighter I don't think should have the "elite fighter" title....so yeah.
