I know we've all seen this, but damn it's always good to bring it back up. Leonard was really a complete fighter... turned into a complete animal when he had to - 1 objective here... KILL! lol.
To anyone saying " This is what pac will do to floyd!" Umm.. no. THis was a different beast, stylistically. Leonard didn't do what a lot of fighters do today and that's pay too much respect for the roll. Pacman doesn't burry his head in anyones chest and sure as hell isn't as good an inside fighter as floyd. BUT..Fighters usually abandon their right hands against the roll today, afraid that they will be penalized for 1. Rabbit Punching or 2. Hitting their opponent on the back. Hence why a decent jab or lead hand from the conventional stance (or southpaw, lead power hand > lead left hand) is a big requirement in successfully getting around it.
Leonard ignored it though.. Hitting FLoyd in the back of the head, lower back and kidneys every chance.
lol dman mayweather sr. just might be the ugliest dude in boxing - and there are a lot of ugly ass cats in boxing.
Nikolai Valuev and Daniel Zaragoza fight for that title.
You can't say that because SRL completely embarrassed Floyd Sr that he would beat Pacquiao. Floyd Sr is slow, has no power and has terrible offense and defense. He was literally a punching bag in that fight and SRL doesn't have extraordinary handspeed.
Pac vs SRL would be a great fight but Pac has alot of advantages like faster handspeed, more power and better head movement. Footwork is a push. If SRL tried to trade with Pacquiao like he did with Floyd Sr he would get KTFO.
What are you smoking? Please tell me you're mentally ill.
Floyd Sr was a good boxer and he gave Leonard more trouble than seen in the brief highlight clip. Leonard was just too much for him though. Mayweather also had a good pair of fights with Marlon Starling. He had very fast hands, but wasn't much of a puncher.
I agree with you. It wasn't as easy as this video made it seem. And I also just read an interview yesterday where Sr was saying that he had a fractured right hand coming into this fight. And in watching this segment of the fight you don't see him throwing many, if any, right hands. He claimed he was basically one-handed in this fight and it kinda showed. And being able to counter with the right hand is huge in use of the shoulder roll. So Sr was obviously not at his best. Although, I can't say how much it would have changed things. It probably just allowed SRL to be a little more reckless and really get after him.

pac has better head movement than ray leonard? what are you fukn high?
If you watch the video SRL was not coming in behind the jab and was just unloading on Floyd sr without anything coming back. One check hook and he would've been dropped by Pac. At one point SRL threw like 6 hooks in a row with the same hand. Thats how you get KTFO. Ask Hatton about the slip under right hand that ended his career.
You're treating it though like this was his style, and it wasn't. If you are seriously basing your predictions on fantasy fights solely on this video alone then I will have to agree with the previous poster who said this 4 minutes of SRL are the only moments of him you've seen, period.
The fact that he could approach the fight like this and completely break Sr's will and never let him mount anything is just another skillset he had. SRL generally is known for his boxing ability, blazing speed, and showboating though.
As I stated in the OP - he showed no respect for Sr's defense or the possible ramifications for punching a Shoulder roller with a right hand (rabbit punches, punches in the back region) and just fought a perfect fight for this style. Relentless.
Saying Pacman would knock him out is a serious stretch. Leonard is about as big as Margarito with all the skills in the world, too. Pacman would be dwarfed and wouldn't be the faster, stronger, or more powerful man in the ring.
As for the poster who mentioned SRL being the greatest fight ever - I tend to convince myself of this at times too. He had several gears and he used them all. He wasn't a 1 trick pony who was either reluctant to back up/defend or come forward/attack. He had all the tools in the world and is an ATG for his wins against incredible competition ALL THE WHILE having 4 years stripped of his prime because of his eye.
There are VERY VERY few fighter who I personally think can go through Leonards resume undefeated and pacman is FAR from being one of them - he is just too small.
Benitez, Duran, Hearns and Hagler come to mind as well as a host of other talent and 4 years removed from the sport.
I always tell people that Leonard could possibly be the best fighter that ever lived. He was the total package of speed, power, and skill. He could fight coming forward as well as going backwards on his toes. I know most would disagree, but I think he beats Ray Robinson.( I think Hagler beats Robinson) I can't see anyone at welterweight in this day and time beating him either. The same way he beat Floyd Sr is the same way I see him beating Floyd Jr. Pacquiao would be too small for him. He would be too smart for Shane Mosley. Put a picture in the dictionary of a fighter and it would be Sugar Ray Leonard.
Leonard is one of my favourite fighters of all time simply because in my eyes he is the closest thing to a complete fighter I can think of.
wtf?......and i am not a fan of sugar ray leonard, at all.

A master at work. To see him systematically breaking down Mayweather's defensive shell was a thing of beauty. If only Leonard was around to whup everyone at 147 today.
Floyd did not really deserve to be in the ring with SRL even as a sparring partner. You could hardly call this a fight more of a workout for SRL on a human punching bag.

this 4 odd minute length youtube clip is about roughly the most time check hooks has ever spent watching a sugar ray leonard fight, don't give it too much thought. that faggot instinto is in this thread too. they'll both tell you time and again pacquiao will never lose to any ATG. their god pacquiao don't bleed.

I don't completely agree, but good post.

Duran.
And Thomas Hearns if it had happened in an alternate universe where 12 rounds was the standard at the time.:angel:

Leonard was a mean, vicious bastard when he wanted to be.He beat Mayweather Sr from pillar to post and seemed to relish doing so.He was in there with a good boxer that was obviously very capable defensively, and that had the skills, but Leonard had nothing but contempt for Mayweather's power(or lack of it).
Mayweather was a tough bastard for lasting as long as he did.
