For two years straight Amir Khan was crapped on because of the Presscott loss, for fighting malinaggi, for ducking maidana, etc, etc. Now that he's proved the majority of knownothings on this message board wrong the knownothings have found a new target. Saul Alvarez! Just like Khan they want him to fight all the top fighters but nevermind none of the top fighters in his division are fighting each other but he's the one who gets shhiitt on. They overexaggerate alvarez getting stunned for 10 seconds and now he has no chin. They say he has no real skills just like they said about Khan even though you have every actual boxing expert saying otherwise. They hate his popularity and they name drop obscure fighters that have done even less than he has.
It's silly but just being witness to this has made me an ever bigger fan of Alvarez (it also made me a fan of Amir Khan) and you know what I hope more than anything that just like Khan he makes you all look stupid. But im sure even if he does you will come up with another knownothing excuse to hate on him just like people have done with Khan.
Overprotection? Ok let me ask you this what 20 year old has fought guys like Baldo, Cotto, Ndou, and hatton. Not saying they are world beaters but 3 of those guys have title bout experience.
Wilfred Benitez
17 years old, beat Antonio Cervantes for the jr. welter title, SD 15R. in 1976.
In 1979 he defeated Carlos Palomino at WW, D 15R.
He also lost to Sugar Ray Leonard at 15R in that same year by KO in the 15th Round.
All at 20 years of age.
This is what a true young champ does.
Not saying Saul can't get there, but no one should hold a strap if they're not fighting the best.
He's good, but after all the hyping (mostly by ODLH) the way he just got gifted a belt stinks. I remain undecided about him. I think Angulo would rip his head off and tear out his still beating heart.

Must make you the new Wazza. Where's your pics of Canelo?
So in otherwords he would be fighting a ligitimate opponents faster than all the other title holders LOL!!!
nope dzinziruk is fighting martinez at a higher weight class , angulo ( interim champ ) will be fighting against top contenders in the wbc tournament , bundrage is looking to fight lara , cotto will fight margarito after mayorga all the while the wbc champ want to make easy defenses for a year+ while the guys who fought in eleiminators ( while saul jumped the queue) take care of each other in a tournament that saul is having no part of in besides fighting the sole winner . So no your point doesn't stand

I personally like him, and think hes a great prospect...
I dont think he should try take on any Cottos etc yet...cos i think he will get schooled....
But that also means im not gonna give him loads of credit for being the matthew hattons....
He should carry on doing what hes doing for another 1/2 years...then step up his game to the bigger fish out there
yup and having bum fights for a year + as a champ will be great too
So in otherwords he would be fighting a ligitimate opponents faster than all the other title holders LOL!!!
Ugh would fighting the best of the top 4 contenders be a step up?
Dur Dur Dur!!

oh... canelo's only 20 ... it's not fair the rest of the guys are in their primes! he needs experience!!! wah wah wah
Yeah, except Ricky Hatton's little brother blown up =/= Maidana, or even Malginaggi. He didn't look all that impressive tbh, didn't see anything that says he's anything but a better version of Chavez Jr with the same overprotection.
hes just 20! yeah maybe he should not have fought for the belt, but still hes just 20.who the hell do you want him fight??? martinez? margarito? he will step it up dude just calm down with all the hate.........................:boxing:
Yeah he's got a solid resume but when you get a title you are expected to step up regardless of age , but its not a good sign when the president of the organisation firstly gifts you a title then ties up the top contenders.

I know what you mean...I don't know where all these khan haters have gone, there was so many. Its pretty pathetic that some people's main aim on forums is discredit fighters rather than actually support the one's that they like. Canelo can become a very good fighter, he has great skills, most of the people here no nothing about boxing so they don't see the talent unless its really obvious like blinding hand speed or ko power, he has some really creative moves in the ring and has great timing and like the best mexican fighters his fundamentals are perfect, he is certainly unique and I like it when fighters come along that are different to the rest.
I think him becoming a really top p4p fighter depends on his toughness as he is never gonna have a great defence, but if he is tough and can become kind of elusive when he comes forward then I think he can be really destructive. He is the type of fighter where if you really open up on him and leave yourself exposed he will find the punches to break you up. He is immensely popular and has a great following like khan and this will create opportunities in his career that certain people will think is undeserved, but fighters don't get followings for no reason. Khan earned his hype in the olympics, canelo has done it by performing way beyond the call of a 20 year old and they are both very identifiable with their looks and background.
I copmpletely agree good post. I also agree on your point about Amir Khan, I don't see why people are so quick to wanna buy some of thes young and talented fighters. I remember a month ago everyone was talking about how good Devon Alexander was and that he would beat Khan, and Alexander looked like complete garbage against Bradley. For that matter I haven't been extremely impressed by Bradley either.
Beating the little brothers of notable fighters does not a legend make :lol1:
If he's too young or inexperienced to be fighting real challenges, he shouldn't be wearing the WBC crown right now.
Who said he was a legend? Seriously who the fuk said that? And cry to the WBC about his title belt Canelo isn't the one responsiable for the sanctioning of his fights.
The difference is, with Khan, even people who dont like him (myself included) all admit he has tons of skill. People just crapped on his weak chin. But his talent cant be denied. With Saul...well...the talent is debatable...the terrible comp cant be. The spoon fed "belt" cant be...the total lack of defense cant be...IMO (feel free to quote me) I think Saul will be lucky to be the next Gatti. An action fighter who has some fun wars. But he will never be a top level guy. Yeah he is young, but he has a buttload of fights already, and has been pro for 5 years. He isnt going to change much.
I disagree when ou say he isn't gonna change much. He is 20, it's not like he is in his 30's he has plenty of time to still learn, adapt and adjust. Also, I think his defense is one thing that will definately improve. Granted he didn't move his head at all against Hatton, but he didn't have to because he was not worried about being hurt. As he starts moving up fighting tougher competition I am sure his defense and his head movement will be one of the first things focused on.
Once again he is 20, everyone is so focused on what he doesn't do. How about giving him credit for some of the things he does do well at such a young age. For instance his combination punching and the fact that he puts his punches together well, not to mention he has the composure of a veteran at such a young age that can't be taught. All I'm saying is we need to give this kid a chanc to see what he could be instead of rishing to snap judgements and burying him before he has even gotten started.

If he's too young or inexperienced to be fighting real challenges, he shouldn't be wearing the WBC crown right now. Have him fight Bobby Pacquiao on the undercard of a c*ck fight in Guadalajara or something. Plenty of challengers out there from 150-154 right now, and he's wearing gold not silver anymore. Time to step up, don't care how old he is.
But he even said it himself he wants 3-4 more soft challenges before he considers a jump in competition. Same thing Chavez Jr is doing and it's getting old fast.
