We all know he is a lefty but because the accident and his rehabilitation he uses the orthodox stance. I feel this causes him problems against pressure fighters because behind his jab his right is slightly weak but this benefits him against speed fighters because his left jab has more mustard than mosts. What i dont get is why his right hand has not really improved in the last 3 years. Its an awkward style for most but because he fights like a righty but he is actualy a righty he will always struggle against pressure fighters
yeah very good i was misinformed but the post still remains the same about his style. i feel this is how he copes well with speed fighters because his left has power but against pressure fighters he struggles because his left is his power shot and his jab but again as i said in the origional post why has his right not improved the way the rest of his career has. obviously lack of trainer has to be a factor but what can manny do to improve his right hand? he needs a solid right
the entire post is misinformed, not just the mistake about why cotto (a lefty) fights in the orthodox stance.
first of all, having a strong left hand doesn't help him cope better against speedsters. he still got his azz kicked by pac.
second of all, cotto being a failure against marg has nothing to do with his stance. either marg was using plaster (no evidence), or cotto gassed (most logical explanation).
cotto always had a good right hand, but the problem is that he doesn't use it. rumor had it that it was because he always had a bum right shoulder, but now that he's had surgery, steward has predicted he will use the right hand a lot more now.
What a terribly misinformed thread. Like someone already said, that's his style. He had that style before the accident that injured his right shoulder.

I thought the same thing. They just always said he was a natural lefty.
he had an accident when he was in his early 20's and was told he would not box again. i think it was a car crash. but he fights righty and he is a lefty and thats why i think he struggles with leftys
the accident happend years ago and thats why cotto the lefty has always faught as a righty. he has rods in his left arm
i thought it was his right shoulder? he had surgery on his right shoulder.

He always fought in an orthodox stance, even as an amateur long before the injury. The accident didn't occur until 2001, a few fights after he had turned pro.
well he finally had surgery so maybe his right will improve.
