Don't you guys find it funny that Ortiz said on Leave it in the ring radio that the commission changed the rules of the wrapping before fight night and he said he was forced to DOUBLE wrap his hands with pure gaughs? He said he couldn't close his hands and didn't feel like his power was the same. That same night Amir Khan faught Marcos Maidana, and the hand wrap rule had to come to affect for that fight as well right? To lessen Maidana's power perhaps? Amir Khan was hit with some flush hard shots from Maidana and was wobbled but not dropped...could the hand wrap incident have been the key factor as of why Maidana couldn't knock out Khan? Did GBP have anything to do with this double wrapping rule? Ortiz has been on multiple fights under GBP, and has faught in Vegas before, and he said this never occured...That is until Amir Khan faught Marcos Maidana...They probably wanted to soften Maidana's heavy hands and force it to be a battle of boxing skills which gave Khan the upper hand...I was thinking about this while I was driving lol Crazy thought but could it be? I mean they put Joe Cortez as ref and they changed the rules of the wrapping for the Ortiz fight with Peterson so they had to do the same for Khan right?
i dont like amir, but he simply outboxed maidana. maidana is a bit overrated imo. dude has KOs, but against nobodies. his biggest wins are against ortiz and cayo, and theyre on the same boat as him, up and coming young fighters. hopefully he proves himself as a top fighter, but right now, i can't picture him beating khan in the rematch.
i dont get it.
Ortiz dropped peterson and maidana multiple times, his power seemed ok.
Maidana couldnt put khan down once, i dont think the wraps made a difference.
True, fact is Maidana wasn't able to sit on his punches against Khan, until late in the fight when Khan was taking risks. Stylisticly Maidana wasn't quick enough on his feet to really get to Khan, regardless of how strong he is.

Being heavy handed and having explosive power are two different things...Ortiz said his hands didn't feel the same...No doubt that Khan, Maidana, and Ortiz have power and heavy hands...but when you pad the hands it takes away some that sledge hammer type feeling when you get hit...I've sparred before and had my hands double wrapped and wrapped regularly...it's not that comfortable...but really though its just a thought...
One thing has nothing to do with the other
Amir Khan has a weak chin, but he is not effecting as badly from Maidana's style of power. He has a lot of trouble with long, weiry, distance punches like Presscott.
