Many things have been said about future star, Saul El Canelo Alvarez, perhaps one of his qualities that has been often overlooked is his calm demeanor and his generosity towards the sport, more than once he's proved money isn't everything, he gave up part of his purse to Carlos Baldomir in their bout last year, Carlos came in too heavy and was ordered to give part of his purse to El Canelo as punishment, but Canelo didn't accept it, saying that he didn't need it
In his latest interview with Republica Deportiva, he basically said that purses don't matter and that they'll come later in his career, while I do I agree that maybe he hasn't earned the right to demand anything yet, you have to love his humbleness and ease about the subject, in a sport where many fighters including the biggest names, have publicly said that belts, rivalries, grudges don't matter only money, it's nice to see that's not the case with Saul
In sports as in pretty much anything else in the world if it doesn't make money it doesn't make sense, it's a sigh of relief to know that such a young fighter who will probably be filthy rich in the near future loves the sweet science and is more focused on being the best and learning how to be just that instead of how much money he can stack up
But what do I know? It could all change in the next few years and who knows, maybe we will see him in his Rolls Royce pretending to eat stacks of cash for dinner, maybe we'll see him take part in classless videos about his opponents and maybe he'll even claim he's the best boxer ever, just maybe... but I really really doubt it.
say it to his face:boxing:
lol I would and he would not know what I am saying because I would be speaking english and then someone would interpret it to Canelo in Spanish and he would agree with me.
so if a billionaire gives 10000 dollars to a needy person its still not a good thing to do?
and its more than just the money, a lot of fighters would have forced Baldomir to make the weight.
I did not say it is not a good thing to do. Its just $12,000 is of little value to Alvarez but it is the thought that counts and I think he is a cool cat.
12 G's aint sh1t to Canelo.

I thought it was a real decent thing for the kid to do not taking old shot Baldo's money when he came in heavy, he was after all just there to make him look good.
This is true but I never expected him to KO Baldomir.....
WTF is $12,000 dollars to Saul Canelo Alvarez. That is how much he let Baldomir keep.
I really do like the kid a lot he really has a desire and love for the sport of Boxing which is refreshing to see. I hope he can be something special and that the Mexican people take a liking to him. He is already hugely popular in all of Mexico.

What's wrong with driving in a Rolls Royce if that's what you earned? I don't think it's about money as much as it is about how you treat the people around you.
There's nothing wrong with being rich if you have earned it. What's wrong is treating people like sh1t BECAUSE you are rich.
Also, you have to understand something, when fighters "demand" things, it's not really them, it's the agents they have hired. That's why they hired them for, to get them paid and make sure they are receiving top dollar for what they are worth.
It's amazing to me how fans don't understand that, this is a business, it's not about personal stuff, it's about doing what's right for your career.
