Fight Night Champion gets the boxing right and adds a flawed but enjoyable story mode. I've always put a lot of stock in career modes, but Legacy mode here is just downright bad. The mini-games are too tough and get boring fast. The entire concept just seems off. What should greatly extend Fight Night Champion's playtime, made me like the game a lot less. Avoid the career mode, enjoy the story mode, and spend a few hours creating some dream boxing matches. That will make any boxing fan happy.
IGN Ratings for Fight Night Champion (PS3)
Rating out a 10 Description
7.5 Presentation
Love the new story mode, but a lot of other areas seem a bit played out. Time for new announcers and a new presentation style.
8.5 Graphics
The faces are really incredible. It's nice to see the crowd in the first few rows look like more than just cardboard cutouts.
7.0 Sound
The punching sounds are cartoonish and the commentators have been used too often in the series to sound fresh anymore.
9.0 Gameplay
This is the best the fighting engine's been for the series. It's a great step forward.
7.5 Lasting Appeal
This is the best the fighting engine's been for the series. It's a great step forward.- (Repeat? I think he screwed up)

I'm worried about getting it Tuesday because there is a legitimate chance that I won't go to class that day or the next. I absolutely cannot wait. Don't really care about the weak roster, CABs are my favorite part of the game.
Playing vs. the right people online who don't spam punches/exploit the game can be a good experience.
I guess I was lucky. I played the demo online a lot and I encountered only a couple of exploiters. Most of fights I had were not hard and every once in a while I'll face someone who picks his shots like I do and it would be a satisfying victory or loss.
then you'll probably find it a lot easier. Like I said I found the computer was often harder then most humans I fought.
Yeah, like I don't get the same rush playing a computer than a human. I was once top 100 in Fight Night 2004 but the series made a turn for the worse trying to be realistic they butchered the game honestly.
It use to be fun when I was 17 or whatever LOL but with each new title I played less and less...
so just one fight and that's it huh? lol damn.
this game took some practice, it's harder then fight night round 4. I consider myself very good and it took me a couple days to get it down, the computer was whooping me at first. The game moves a whole lot faster then FN4 and the computer AI is really good, so it takes patience.
I don't play single player, I almost always go straight online LOL
I was bobing and weaving (against the computer) and out of nowhere he lands one punch and i'd be in danger. Complete and utter bull****, I don't know about online, I got my Xbox back, after the took it down. But one fight was enough to disguard the whole game for me.
i noticed when you bob and weave or leap in with a punch, you are really likely to get straight ko'd
I played quite a bit on the online demo and I rarely ever got KO'd. The last night it was available I went 25-1.
I think the one punch ko's mostly happen when you're being very aggressive and careless or you're perfectly countered. Of course, every now and then it can happen when maybe it seems unnecessarily but in my experience I was whooping everyones ass and rarely ever got beat so it must say something.I was bobing and weaving (against the computer) and out of nowhere he lands one punch and i'd be in danger. Complete and utter bull****, I don't know about online, I got my Xbox back, after the took it down. But one fight was enough to disguard the whole game for me.
There will be online communities you can join, such as boxing gyms, which will have sliders adjusted. So if you're looking for a sim (no counter windows, etc.) there will be places like that. If you just want less one punch KO's there will be places like that too.
You can also create your own online gym and adjust the sliders the way you want them and people can join. From there you guys can fight eachother and fight other members at other gyms as well.
sounds annoying just to not get KO'd in 5 secs of playing LOL
you can change the game settings or adjust the sliders to decrease the chances of one punch KO/KD
How about online mode? If you can make one punch Kos non exsistant online, i'll purchase or rent from gamefly LOL
its boring, you black out too often trying to play the frigging game, its unfair, i countered just as well, and connected with haymaker counters and the computer just brushed it off, when it happens to me, once I even went down for the count. I dont wanna be in danger mode the whole entire game, and I say this as a top 100 player from fight night 2004, last two fight nights sucked, Iam not even bothering picking this one up.
I've got the game, I played as Tyson and got KTFO by Jermain Taylor, yea.
It's okay for what it is, I also played Lewis v Manfredo, (ye I like picking on smaller guys in lower weight classes, Funny cuz before that I had Hopkins v Ricky Hatton) and the reach was massive on paper but in game it was virtually the same really whenever I was in reach to throw a jab, so was he.
How'd you get the game this early?
Contest winner?
Strange, they gave FN4 a better score. Only basing on the demo's, but IMO, FNC seems much better.
Gonna pick this up though, cant wait to play as the Klits & RJJ. :boxing:
they screwed him up again. still fights like mayweather for some reason and his trunks still sucks. wish they should've gone with the ruiz fight trunks. :grumpy:
it seems like they only updated pacquiao graphically too. everyone still looks garbage. they didn't even bother to change the trunks from FNR4 or anything, they all still look cartoony. lazy motherfuckers.
having more fun with the cotto vs pac match up than with tyson vs ali but i can say thank god they got tyson's style and quick uppercuts right. mych better than round 4, no more waiting for counters, you can be effective with a jab, and its easier to move away from your opponent and/or jump in. the more you realistically you fight, the better the game plays out. champion will no doubt leave the button mashers in the dust and the real strategists will be rewarded. cant wait to fight a whole 12. dont really care about story mode or created fighter/ legacy mode since RD 4 was good enough. as long as the roster is filled this game should provide the goods.
This game (from demo alone) is greatly improved to fn4, if you can't tell the subtle differences then u just don't watch or do boxing u just see a couple of blokes slugging.
in this game YOU CANT SPAM because there is a stamina bar for each "punch motion" - if you spam a punch, then you will get tired, and that punch becomes useless. it also exponentially increases your chance of getting one shot KTFO'd. The KD and KO animations are pretty realistic looking (some are too dramatic). The 1-2 works like a charm. The new power enhancer is a HUGE improvement. Once you can ADJUST THE SLIDERS, then it will be more realistic.
That is true.
Looking forward to buying this mofo.
