Clear as day in the slow motion replay.
Donaire repositions his body, looks at the falling Montiel (who's right knee is already touching the ground), bends down, and hits him right on the forehead with a hook, the same way Abraham landed his punch.
The very same people who will say "It's so different, he already knocked him out/down, it was in the heat of the moment, happens in boxing all the time, blah blah blah" are the ones who ostracized Abraham last year. In normal speed Abraham's punch did appear "in the heat of the moment," but everyone threw a fit when they watched the slow motion as if Arthur calculated all his actions, had some tea, and decided to give Dirrell an excuse out of the tourney.
Watching the slow motion of the Montiel knock out, it also appears as if Donaire intentionally punches an obviously downed opponent. See the similarities but the polarized responses to each?
Now, of course, I do understand that the situations are different, I'm just pointing out the inherent hypocrisy.
P.S. I'm no brain trauma expert, but I wouldn't be surprised if that follow-up punch actually caused some damage as well. The counter left obviously stunned him something terrible, but the second punch may have also worsened his dizziness and thus he could barely get up. Montiel should argue for a no contest. If he gets a good lawyer they can easily twist it that way.
I said it was heat of the moment and I didn't ostracize Abraham.
Fighting is very much an instinctual thing. Throwing a punch when your opponent's guard is down is second nature to these guys. Sometimes you're not aware your doing it until it's been done.
No love lost for either fighter.
I agree... It was a natural instinct and it didn't make a difference he was almost out cold like Paul Williams before he even hit the ground PLUS that extra punch barely touched him... People need to stop crying and making excuses lol

TS is dumb and blind. Donaire was reeling from a right hook from Montiel and when his counterhook connected, Montiel seems to be ducking and had not touched the canvass when Donaire started his swing. Nothing was touching the ground when he started that swing.
All in a milli second, no time to even analyze or have benefit of slow motion thinking like this dumb TS.
that follow up punch was partially blocked by Donaire's own leg.. clearly not enough leverage to be this devastating shot you are painting it to be.. The damage was done by that devastating left hook. Not the follow up awkwardly angled punch that barely connected.
Point being he threw the punch. Doesn't matter if it landed flush or not.
Was it Donaire's conscious intention to hit a falling opponent? The same way Abraham intentionally punched Dirrell fully aware that he was on the ground?
You know the rules, protect yourself at all times...
How do you know that Nonito knew that left hook sent Montiel to the moon?
I'm pretty sure all boxers/fighters are taught to keep punching until the ref stops you.
You really think a guy who is out to hurt you cared that your knee touched the canvas? which is not even clear from that footage.
On a side note, nobody brought up Margarito punching Cotto in the face when he clearly took a knee. That's more of what Abraham did.
thats a reaction punch, it's not like he was taking a knee, or was completely out on the ropes with no defense, etc.
also, i've watched it enough, and you can clearly see that it glances at best, but also donaire hit his own leg before that punch grazed montiel.........
there is no ill-intent other than the fact that they were fighting, sanctioned fighting at that.........
you do know that Montiel was still in the process of falling, wheras Dirrell had literally been sitting on the ground for a solid second or two, correct?
it makes a pretty big difference.

i think the point of a lot of folks here TS is that there is no hypocrisy here.
since as even you pointed out, the two situations are entirely different, it is only logical to say that it is just natural for people to treat them differently.
hypocrisy is when two similar situations are treated differently because of favoritism, race or whatnot that causes the unfair treatment.
this is simply not the case.

he was in the middle of throwing a combination. it happens all the time, even to me sometimes
Threads get worse every day, Donaire's punch to Montiel was essentially a follow up, it was done in a fluid motion and as others had said if you didn't see it in slow motion you wouldn't recognise it.
With Abraham, there was a good enough delay before he snapped his head back. If I remember things correctly he wasn't in the middle of an offense, Dirrel slipped.
Abraham threw a straight just as Dirrell slipped. Not saying he caused Andre to drop, the punch barely connected, but Abraham could have thought that he had knocked him down and punched again as Donaire is doing.
Anyway, if you don't understand what I am trying to convey here don't bother responding. That's to everyone not just you.

it would be similar to abrham-dirrell if donaire followed montiel to the plastic surgeon, tied up the doctor, put on a lab coat, and punched montiel again.
LMAO!!!!
:lol1:
Of course you realize that it is not illegal to hit a guy on the way down, right?
It's a matter of definitions: One can not be down, if he is on the way down. Montiel was still fair game until he hit the canvas. As far as I know, no part of his body besides his feet were on the canvas, so he was still not down.
In fact, the way he hit the canvas, it would have been impossible to hit him when he was down, unless Donaire had squared up and punched directly down.
It is not the same as Abraham taking a clean shot at Dirrell when Dirrell was on the canvas.
