Great question. Someone was sleeping when they scheduled this. Now I have to keep changing channels because I want to see the fights but also can't miss Blake Griffin in the dunk contest :thumbsdow :damnit:
it is unfortunate that more people will be watching the All Star Stuff more then the Boxing Matches but unfortunately at least in the US boxing is no longer that big of a Sports, most probably are not even aware of these matches tonight...SADLY!
Meaningless slam dunk contest vs foty candiate with real implications at bw plus add on to that we have the Pinoy-Mexican rivalry angle. How is this a hard choice for anyone on this site?
I wouldn't say its dying popularity wise. There was like over 100k people at the dallas cowboy stadium for the allstar game last year.
I doubt it too. Its still on TV so its fine. But it is the only top sport in debt.
Dont think it will hurt boxing. If any sport is dying, its basketball. ESPN said its possible the NBA goes bankrupt. I think it was a update on the money they borrowed.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/feb/26/nba-set-to-acquire-175-million-line-of-credit/
The league said on Thursday that it borrowed an additional $25 million, bringing the total to $200 million.
The league will distribute the funds among 15 teams that requested them, with each team getting no more than $13.33 million. The borrowing, which is in addition to the $1.7 billion credit facility used by the league, comes as NBA teams are dealing with lower attendance and a loss of sponsorships

in that case I partially retract my previous statement and am mildly interested now.
but certianly not enough to miss as great a fight as Donaire-Montiel.
I might catch some of the more eye opening ones on youtube tomorrow, but I certainly wont feel let down by not seeing it live.
I kind of like watching that one 5'6 guy dunk, but last year it was pretty lackluster and basic from what I remember.
Yea last year was by far the worst dunk contest ever imo.
Well tonight they will be having the dunk contest ;)

It is. I cant stand playing it either. you barely tap someones wrist and "OMG A FOUL!!!!". meanwhile they do that little butt scoot into your crotch and its all good.
If they werent such little girls about it all the time then it actually might be pretty fun, because Im annoyingly good at defense. but if I cant even go after the ball? bah.
slam dunks are kind of fun, hell anything involving jumping is pretty fun, but shooting and how timid you have to be on defense is meh.

So if the NBA was like it was in the 80s you'd like it? Because guys used to get hit hard back then.
The one's losing here are actually the NBA. If there was not a fight tonight, I, and i'm sure a lot of you, would have tune in to the Dunking/3-point contest. As a matter of fact, I was invited to my friend's house to watch it with my buddies and I turned it down to watch tonight's fight.
Honestly Donaire vs Montiel have nothing to lose, the potentially 500k-1Mill viewers who will watch this fight, could have been NBA's viewers.
So instead, HBO is stealing dunk/3point contest viewers from TBS/TNT or whatever channel it will be on.
Think about it for a sec.
you are a real boxing fan my friend
basketball boring???lol....wow

well.
mexicans like soccer and boxing right?
pinoys like watching other pinoys.
hardcore fans sometimes don't like basketball.
so i doubt it's a lose situation for tonight.
i expect most people from USA who like basketball to not watch. but thats about it.

Think about it for a sec. Naw I don't know about that....Heck since I haven't been on the forums for awhile I didn't even know the fight was coming on today until I looked up what was coming on HBO. This is one of the most anticipated dunk contest in YEARS. many will be watching this instead of boxing.
