P4p of course, some kid on youtube reckons "9/10 of people KNOW Tyson is better than Pacquiao" :ugh:
Lets see if boxingscene is smarter than I give it credit for.
So 8 weight phenom Manny Pacquiao or Mike Tyson who ermm... beat a past prime Larry Holmes!
Tyson's my favorite fighter of all-time, but Manny is by far better than he is as a fighter.
Sorry Kiddo but this isn't even close and shouldn't even be up for discussion.
are you familiar with pac's resume pre 135?
So your whole hypothesis is based on what would have happened but doesn't account for what actually did happen (Douglas/holyfield).
You're a real winner. I'm glad you taught me something tonite.
Ahh you're quite cute :bottle:
So this topic is about something which does not and can never have a definitive answer, yet you bash my opinion, of which a lot of people may agree with?
Pre 135 I would put him in the same bracket as JMM, IMO
The recent handpicked/depleted oppenant era for me hasnt proved too much.
In terms of skills. Tyson has the better defence as he is alot harder to hit clean than Pacquiao is due to the peek a boo defence and superior head movement. Tyson is a much better combination puncher than Pacquiao. Pacquiao with the exception of the Hatton fight tends to break fighters down before stopping them whilst Tyson gets the KO much earlier. Tyson is also the superior body puncher. Prime Tyson who trained hard had great conditioning.
Also do you not see Tyson becoming the youngest hevayweight champion of all time as an achievement? To do what he did at his age required alot of skill and dedication. Pacquiao as great as he is took alot longer to reach his prime. Also with Tyson he never reached his full potential. If he had stuck with Rooney we would be looking at the GOAT.
First off. Saying Tyson is not as great as PAC is not sayig that Tyson accomplished nothing, so stop being all hurt. In terms of accomplishment, manny and Tyson isnt even close to close.
About tyson's d and conditioning, they were terrible. Douglas, and the only a fighters Tyson ever fought tagged him cleanly and repeatedly. Tyson faded in every tough fight he ever had.
Sure he looked good ko'ing c level fighters and his d looked great when dudes were pissing their pants across from him. Aybe you'd have a better grasp if manny fought more Davis diaz's and a couple Henry bruselese so the comparisons would be more accurate with the defense.
How is Berbick a bum? He was the WBC champion. He could be a contender in any era. Spinks was the lineal heavyweight champion coming of a KO win over Cooney. He was an undefeated ATG. Light-hevayweights have moved up to heavyweight before. Holmes wasnt past it he still had alot left. He went onto challenge Holyfield and beat an undefeated Ray Mercer. Tyson is the only guy to KO ATG Holmes. Also Tyson has good wins over Ruddock, Tubbs, Bruno, Smith and Thomas.
You know the diferance between Skills and resume right?
Pacquiao has a better resume but hes not as good as Tyson ability wise.
wow......seriously, you have 39 posts and you're saying stuff this dumb? usually people begin by figuring out where they fit in,
you would fit in best in the boxing section of maybe yahoo sports or sherdog.

How is Berbick a bum? Maybe because he sucked. He won the title from the Great Pinklon Thomas and lost it in his very next fight. Other than Pinklon Thomas, Muhammad Ali is his best win...and the fact that Ali is so impaired that he's behind Pinklon Thomas really says it all. Next, we have Spinks. Yes, the champ, yes he was a good fighter, but a great big guy beats a great little guy. I never said Tyson wasn't great, he just doesn't compare to Pacquiao in any way, skills or resume. Pacquiao's defense is just as good, he throws better combinations, and most importantly, he's got a much bigger heart and better conditioning. Tyson's got the edge in power, but it's not like Pacquiao's a pillowfist. Manny's just better.
The comparason is ridiCULOs. Mike Tyson terrorized the Heavyweight Division and NOone was calling him out while Pacquiao hasn't terrorize any division and everybody is calling him. Not sure of the point of this thread.
So because Tyson fought in a weaker division and was an intimidator, he was better? You see Pacquiao's skills, you see his resume, you see his weight climb, it's not even questionable who's better.
Also, ask MAB if he'd be interested in a rematch. Even if MAB was in any position to accept one, I would be terrified at the thought if I were him.

Yes Pacquiao is better than Robinson. Chin, speed, footwork, power etc
Watch Tyson Vs berbick, Spinks and Holmes. Tyson is the most skilled fighter of all time prime for prime.
You think I haven't seen Tyson vs. Berbick? You know this is a boxing forum, right? Beating up a bum, a light heavyweight and a past-it legend don't say "most skilled fighter all time." Nobody on his resume comes even close to Pacquiao's annihilation of Barrera. Robinson is almost not even worth addressing, a blind man could see how much more skilled he was than Tyson.

Tyson's skills are among the most overrated of any fighter. They looked all time great against B fighters, but not against the better fighters he faced.
If were talking skills then it has to be Tyson. He was the youngest heavyweight champ of all time and had he kept with Rooney he would of dominated the heavyweight division in the 90s up until he retired.
If were talking resume its Pacquiao.
Wait a second, you think that Pacquiao is better and more skilled than Ray Robinson but that Tyson is more skilled than both of them? Whaaa?
Notice i put IMO - in my opinion. Notice there also isnt any evidence that Pac is better than Tyson, its all opinion. On face value Pacs recent form looks great, but if you go into it his opponents have been lacking a lot.
You mean evidence like beating a couple prime hof'ers and winning lineal titles? That kind of evidence?
If it wasnt for the jail sentance, there wouldnt have been any competition in the heavyweight division in the early 90's, well aside from Lewis. Just off top -Bruno/Hide/Bowe/Younger Holyfield/Mercer IMO wouldnt have been champ. Also you dont get catchweights in HW division as such.
