I Just Realised Something About Oscar We Don't Give Him Credit For

He's never been in serious trouble to the point where he's had to hold on for dear life, then wobbled back to his corner in a stupor. He's been rocked a few times. Manny landed heavy shots at 147 and even Floyd rocked his jaw at 154, but he's withstood shots to the head and chin like a trooper.

Oscar had a very good chin. As we've seen with other fighters, his punch resistance seemed to get better as he moved up in weight, suggesting that he was weaker and maybe drained at the lower weights (where he was huge in size at). Going into the Rafael Ruelas fight @ 135, part of the questions going in were each guy's chins. People thought both of them were chinny, as De La Hoya had been dropped by Valenzuela & Campanella. By the time he got to WW, there were no questions about his chin. I wouldn't call it top ten though. There's been too many fighters out there with great chins to rank him THAT highly. Oscar generally had a pretty good defense too. It's not as if his fights featured him taking a lot of sustained punishment where he's hit consistently with flush shots to the chin.

Oscar was knocked down against Quartey, Whitaker, Campanella, and Valenzuela. ...not suggesting he had a bad chin, jsut a response to someone asking when he had been knocked down. He was knocked down early in his career vs Campanella and Valenzuela and was legitimately knocked down vs Quartey but in the Pernell fight it was an obvious trip that was called a knock down. By the way Pernell Whitaker called Oscar a "Dinosaur" when he was going to fight Pacquaio.

Oscar has never been KTFO except when he faced Hopkins in a weight division which did not suit him. Oscar faced big punchers throughout his career (Chavez,Trinidad,Mayorga,Mosley etc) and he fared quite well So yes he has an ATG great chin.:boxing: He fought at Hopkins at 156. I think it suited Bernard less than it did Oscar.

Oscar has been down but they all look like flash kd's to me. Never really seen him wobbled badly. Mosley has been knocked out on his feet and people always say he has a great chin. Anyone who can go toe to toe with a prime Mosley for 12 rounds like in their first fight has a superb chin.

Watch the 8th round of DLH-Vargas...it was a DLH right hand festival. Vargas looked lost and confused. Oscar's right hand was ok. Yeah like I said, it wasn't horrible but I felt he couldv'e worked on it more and would've been a more complete boxer. I don't recall but was Predator Sr training him for that fight? He looked pretty silly trying to shoulder roll.

Was Oscar ever knocked down aside from the Hopkins fight? Whitaker knocked him down, but it was more due to Oscar being off balance.

Dude had an excellent chin. He gets a lot of crap on here but he was great in his time.

Not top 10 all time IMO. But, pretty damn good chin regardless. This here^^^ Everyone has always given Oscar credit for his chin.
