Now my understanding is that to be undisputed you have to win all 4 of the major belts, but Dave Rado doesn't believe so and claims Hatton was undisputed champ at 140. So who's right?
edit:
undisputed world champion

Yes it does make him undisputed champion. To be Undisputed you have to beat the best, not collect paper belts from paper champions.
How does someone prove they are the best? By beating all other champions. :lol1:
That would make him lineal champ, not undisputed.

Undisputed is a subjective term, homie. Some random guy with the IBA HW title could dispute whether or not Wlad is the HW champion, would that make Wlad any less the champion? No.
Ricky Hatton was The Champion at 140. The man. The kingpin.
it was a fact that baldomir was lineal champ. it was not a fact he was the best. just like zsolt erdei was lineal champ but no one thought he was the best.
yes many people will conclude Baldomir was not the best. but by way of his victory over the legitmate champion he has the rightful claim. If he is the fighter that beats the recognized champion the he can claim that he is the best. if not any other fighter can declare himself as the best without fighting the recognized champion.
*Im not saying Baldomir was the best (He's not IMO) during those days but if we follow rules and regulations then by the record books, he is the best. Yeah it sounds ridiculous but there should be a standard in all these rankings.
with so much ducking and dodging in boxing it's possible to get some really crappy linear champs.
I agree completely. But the other guys should not waste time and beat him to get the recognition. so that we wont have vacant championship all the time.
By matter of FACT we can say this because Baldomir beat the CHAMPION in Judah who kayoed Spinks.
But of course so many people have their opinions.

No lineal champ literally means best in the division
When Baldo won it, he was the best WW in the world

The biggest obstacle in collecting all 4 belts is actually the sanctioning fees :ugh:
Imagine a fighter paying a percentage to 4 organizations??? That's a lot of money.

You are correct undisputed means none of the major alphabets are disputing the claim. It is not an opinion but a technical fact.
Now being lineal simply means that the champion have beaten the man who was duly recognized as the champion. Is Baldomir the best in the division? Maybe not to others or maybe not in reality but it should be just considered as an opinion because Baldomir beat Judah who beat Spinks that means he is the Champion.
Being Lineal means having the right to be called the best IMO. because how can you claim that someone else is the best when this fighter actually have beaten the champion?
Example Hypho:
A fighter named Roy Jones was an up coming fighter and everybody thinks that he is the best by looking spectacular in every fight at Super Middleweight.
But to that day. The Champion is a fighter named James Toney. If ever Roy continues to look spectacular againts everybody except Toney. Do you you think you can rightfully declare Roy as the Champion?
Being a champion means beating the Champion. That's why Lineal and Ring are the most prestigious.
Undisputed means there is no dispute about it, during his reign I don't remember hearing to many disputes about his status as champion .
I guess it depends how you define undisputed champion though and like several boxing terms it could be looked at any number of ways.
It is almost impossible to hold all the belts currently though.
You don't have to win all four belts to be a undisputed champion, sometimes all those crooked sanctioning bodies don't allow you to collect all the belts. I consider Hatton as an undisputed champion at 140 because of his lineal belt.
That would make him lineal champ, not undisputed.

Not technically but basically. Kostya Tsyzu was the undisputed champion at 140 and Hatton beat him.
Same way your mancrush David Haye was undsiputed champion at crusierweight. He may not have had all the belts but for all intents and purposes he was undisputed champ.
hatton was lineal champ but sometimes being the lineal champ doesnt always equal the best in the division.
Hatton was lineal champ but bradley was the best in teh division just like baldo was the lineal champ when floyd beat him but was far from the best in the division.
No lineal champ literally means best in the division
When Baldo won it, he was the best WW in the world
Belt dont really matter
For example Devon got stripped before the Bradley fight and Judah-Mabuza are suppose to fight for it now
But if Bradley fights Khan, it will be for the undisputed 140 title even tho someone else has a belt
Not really sure if Hatton was tho
