Calzaghe was a "slapper"?

calzaghe was outlanded by a wide margin in at least 7 of the rounds and i scored those rounds for hopkins. seems pretty simple to me. and another round was about even in lands but hopkins punches are much harder so you can probably give it to him. either way i don't see how it's possible to give calzaghe the fight if you score on clean punches. maybe if you use your own totally incorrect scoring criteria you can have calzaghe winning but what's the point of scoring fights then? you are just gonna score the fight for the guy you want to win every time and i think that's what happened here. hopkins easily won the boxing match but people didn't like the way he did it so they punished him. So you scored it for Hopkins by a couple of points tops? In a fight with several swing rounds. Yet you've cried about this fight for years? Wow.

Hopkins certainly landed the better punches. I cannot argue against that. But I think Calzaghe landed more punches...even if they were faaggy slaps. Ive never heard ur scorecard? Cal did slap in his later fights, but he knew when to put mustard on his shots, namely when he went to the body and had no danger of injuring his hands or when a fighter showed a clear weakness to a straight right. It wasn't the "slaps" his opponents couldn't deal with, it was the fact that he was throwing about a thousand of them per fight with a very high connect percentage. Cal will never be looked at as a poster boy for orthodox boxing, but like a lot of great fighters he developed his own unique style and made it work.

calzaghe was able to go into a ring with professional fighters and b*tch slap them for 12 rounds.... and according to his record there wasnt much anyone could do about it sounds pretty bad a$$ to me

Yeah but he was knocked down by the light hitting, aged Hopkins and had to squeak out a tight decision. He was also put on his ass by a shot Roy Jones, another guy that hadn't put anyone significant down in ages(don't cry about the forearm). So what's left of Calzaghe's career, a collection of Europe's finest? He was knocked down but came back to win both fights. I dont understand why so much emphasis is put on the kds. Roy was knocked down by a Lou Del Valle. Hopkins was floored twice by Segundo Mercado. What does it matter? Calzaghe won every single title at 168 and then won the lineal title at 175. His resume could've been better but i dont think much of that was his fault -he was just a victim of circumstance.

Exactly. People focus on how bad Joe looked in that fight because he was supposed to be the one being showcased on his American debut. But Hopkins spent half the time running, holding, fouling, crying and faking injuries whilst landing 4 punches a round. They both looked terrible that night hence why there was no immediate rematch. Hopkins seems to get a pass cos hes "old". like i always say every fighter has their haters. its easy to judge when you dont knwo what was going on behind the scenes. but every boxer has their haters. i have my share that i dont like for whatever reasons. do it means our opinions are facts hell no. so whatever. i like joe i like hop i like roy. i feel joe wasnt in his prime when he fought roy and hopkins. just like he didnt come to the states to fight them they didnt go over and fight him either. and just like after joe beat them they didnt fight much well he retired himself as well. they all have their fans and haters.
