We all want Andre Berto to step up and fight a extreme threat. We also want Paul to get his ass back in the squared circle(Since Sergio brought Mr. Peterson back down to earth)and produce some more entertaining fights.
Paul and his camp have been saying for quite some time that he feels most comfortable at 147.
Berto and his camp have been saying they are ready and willing to take on any notable name.
Paul's name still has some umph on it even after the crushing KO by Sergio. Why are we not hearing about Paul vs. Andre, rather than Andre vs. Victor? :dunno:
I think if Paul is going to campaign at 147; then the fight to make is with Andre Berto.
I think if Andre Berto wants to sweeten his name for a mega fight(With Manny of Floyd)then he should take on the fella that no one at 147 wants/wanted to see.
Whats yall's take on this possible match up? I mean both can be ready for a match up by April. I say lets make this match up. Poll to come.
Berto was willing to go to 154 for Cotto. Paul says his ideal weight is 147. Andre wouldn't have to go anywhere. But I see your point.
Yeah, its like a crossroads, both willing to weigh in at whaever, but they never agree on an exact weight.
apart from the weight issue, it should be an easy fight to make
I would like to see this but sadly Al Haymon fighters wont fight each other. To make it worse, I truly believe Al even encourages them not to call each other out.
True indeed TR. I wish Al would get off of that shiit, but he's always been that way.

Berto is a hype-job, I agree, but Berto is still an untested fighter at this 'level', for all we know he could in-fact be the real deal, and there is still the possibility of him beating Williams' to a pulp. We won't know that until he actually fights elite fighters, but it's not totally out of the question.
Berto may not be the biggest puncher, but in his recent fights he's shown he definitely packs a punch and Martinez wasn't exactly known as a one-punch KO artists before his Williams' KO. Williams may think he got caught with a punch he didn't see, but he's been caught with punches he hasn't seen in the past and was able to absorb the power, again the point about punch-resistance.
Williams got flattened, mate. Duran lost a close decision to Hagler, he didn't exactly get Knocked Out, unconscious. There is a big difference.
I saw the fight Stones homie. I know. I also saw the Duran/Hagler fight, and it was a war. Sometimes a one shot starching early in a fight is less brutal than a 15 round slug fest. While I understand where you comin from, I say for the sake of a great match up, and the revival of one of Boxings best divisions this fight should happen.
would berto move to 154lbs, would pwill come down t 147lbs. questions need be asked

This is dumb...very stupid idea...Williams is a 154 - 160 pounder and we saw what he was able to do when he made a weight that suits his physique...LMAO TIMBBEERRRRR
He's got pretty much just as many fights at WW as he does at JMW.

.
I have seen him against one solid fighter(Collazo) and he went life and death with him and couldnt hurt him enough to stop him from coming. Ever since then for some strange reason his team have put him in there with cab drivers and jrww's.
But why do ya'll think this fight cant be made for April or May? I say to hell with a soft touch for Paul. He's been known to fight whoever, why change up and show folks otherwise. Duran fought Hearns right after Hagler. Why cant Paul miss a soft touch and go for the gusto right now?
Williams would take this fight no doubt asap but Berto would never accept it. I dont blame Berto or his team for not taking dangerous fights when HBO allows him to take on jrww's and journeymen for big money.

No, he is not Martinez, but who's to say Williams' is still the same fighter before that loss to Martinez? We'll have to wait and see how that loss really effected him.
I think the fact that he thinks it was a lucky punch that stopped him shows that his confidence will still be intact. If Williams was going against a big puncher like Pavlik in his next fight i would have the same concern you are showing but againt Berto nah he beats the breaks off that hype job jrww killer.
Paul is coming back from a devastating loss, I don't expect him to get into the ring with a 'Berto-caliber' fighter for at least a couple fights - that Martinez loss more than likely took the wind out of his sails and hit his confidence like a hurricane - there's also the point about his punch resistance fading; is he still able to fight with that style with a lesser chin? In previous fights he was able to take tremendous amounts of punishment and shots on the chin from Cintron, Martinez, Quintana, Margarito etc etc
Berto is not Martinez Williams beats him easily.
Al Haymon would stop this from happening. Besides, Berto would price himself out. I'd rather see Berto fight Clottey or go ahead and give Collazo his rematch even though he's been inactive.
I agree it's not easy. But they've been sayin he's most comfy at 147. I dont see no reason not to believe them on that. What better way to prove it to folks than to make the weight for a championship bout?
Paul gets to prove that he really is a WW, and Andre gets to fight at the WW limit with NO catch-weight. It's a win-win for all involved.
Fair enough. If Paul Williams fights at 147 and proves he can make it comfortably, and called out Berto, I agree Berto would be inclined to fight him. However, like Scott said, Al Haymon fighters don't fight each other. HBO would have to push for it hard to get any chance of it happening.
10lbs is more than a whole weight class. That's not easy to lose.

Why? He was just at 156 wasnt he? Your talkin bout less than 10 lbs to get down to 147.
