Theres no question that boxing is not what it used to be, theres only a few guys that are literally carrying the sport at the moment, I love boxing and I would hate to see it gradually die out and be taken over by ufc. It used to be one of the top major sports and fights would be on all of the time but now theres no where near the amount of decent fighters, theres belts all over the place and its luck if I manage to see a world class fight in a whole month. So what do you guys think, will boxing ever get back to how it used to be?
I can understand that it is too expensive for networks to come up with boxing events on a regular basis. The solution might be to cover boxing in all corners of the globe. It probably doesn't matter if they were televised a day later so that networks could insert commercials to cover the expenses. Point is, it's far better than nothing.
No network is coming up with solutions to make boxing a mainstream sport and free to watch on regular tv.
Have you heard about the discussions going on between Top Rank and CBS? Boxing may be coming back to free tv.
will boxing ever get back to how it was?
No. Seeds are not being planted. Takes time to come up even with low profile fights. Result: not a lot of boxing is seen on tv. It's under exposed. It's a chicken and egg or a cart is ahead of the horse thing. How do you expect to come up with new stars with this condition?
Everyone is streaming non-big fights. No network is coming up with solutions to make boxing a mainstream sport and free to watch on regular tv.

isn't that what boxing always has been?
at one point only dlh was carrying the sport. before that it was rjj. before that it was tyson. etc... and so on and so forth.
I don't remember what i was listening to, but the person was saying how people were always wishing for the "good old days" of boxing, no matter what point of the 20th century they were in.
That's true for pretty much everything. You always yearn for the past instead of what you have at the present. At present we have quality boxing on numerous television networks and we have almost any televised boxing card in the world available at our fingertips with streams. Why so many complaints?

Yeah there is a lot of truth to what you are saying I personally feel the last few years of boxing have been great. I think people in America do not realize how good Boxing is doing internationally.
american heavyweights are crap fighters now. that's why a lot of people are saying the sport is dying.
i don't get this "boxing" is dying bull****.
boxing has had a boost in the past few years. we had exciting fights, good match ups, the best boxer is getting mainstream media attention.
its doing just fine. not as big as it once in the US cause its best boxer happens to be a vagina.

I am not sure but I am really hoping for just two things for Boxing.
1. Quality Live Boxing on National Television.
2. A single governing body that gives the fans the fights they want to see.
