So if the judges had Margarito winning against Pacquiao you would seriously rank him higher and believe he is the better fighter?
If that happened the fight would probably be ruled a no contest. Senseless comparison anyway as Kotelnik v Alexander was a close fight, Pacquiao v Margarito was a one sided beat down.
I think those are fair rankings. Kotelnik seems like a guy who will always give a great showing, but fall just a hair short.
I think Maidana is right where he should be. Even though he got KD against Khan, he came back and closed the gap. I think he'd beat Alexander, and perhaps Bradley as well. I also think him v. Kahn would be another great one.
I hope these guys stay at 140 just a little longer...I see great fights coming up
I'm surprised Maidana is rated so highly, when we all know he is a one-dimensional brawler with zero boxing skills and has an overrated win over the coward Ortiz and got his ass dropped by Khan. Not to mention Kotelnik has a win over him and an arguable win over Devon, too.

i dunno but ppl have this allure about maidana. i mean the guy has never looked dominant in any fight vs a top quality opponenet but i guess they like his style so they feel hes better than the alexanders/kotelniks when they are all about the same imo. but to me, having a few good rounds per fight and still losing fights dont mean much. all the credit for beating ortiz, that was his best performance, but he was actually losing on the cards until ortiz quit. just saying...
I agree, I don't get it either. And, if Alexander fights Maidana next. Which I hear might happen in the summer. Since Alexander guarantee an HBO date for 1.25mil(so stupid for HBO to give him that guarantee but that is another debate). I might put money on Alexander beating Madiana. I really think he could.
BTW, I'm just playing devil advocate here. In my personal list I have Kotelnik at #3 at 140. But, he's moving up to 147. So as soon as he has his first fight at 147 he will be taken off from my personal ranking.
But, just cuz' I don't personally have Alexander at #3 I don't think it's outrageous that The Ring or anybody else has Alexander #3. I really don't, I'm OK with that I won't argue cuz' I understand the reason behind it.
I personally have Alexander ahead of Maidana in my ranking. I have Alexander #4 and Maidana at #5. But, again if you have Maidana ahead of Alexander at #4 and have Alexander at #5...I'm OK with that cuz' I can see the reasoning behind that.
What I don't like though is people bitchin about Alexander being ranked ahead of Kotelnik but are not saying anything about Maidana being ranked ahead of Kotelnik. If Kotelnik should be ranked ahead of Alexander then he sure damn well should be ranked ahead of Maidan also.

no, im pretty sure doug fisher gave the fight to khan. but the other writer clearly gave it to alexander. ring isnt a person. how many times must this be said?
I think you mean Kotelnik right?
I dont see why we have to take what the 'official' judges say as fact.
theyve screwed up more times than I can mention. and it takes no qualifications to be a judge anyway. you fill out some forms and youre good for it. I dont see how theyre any better judges than I am.
Who the judges, you, me, and everybody thinks who won the fight is all opinion. However, Alexander having an official win in the record books over Kotelnik is a fact.
Its a perfect example imo. He would still be ranked because he fought in the division he just wouldn't be ranked high. All was getting at is if one guy completely dominated a fight but the judges gave it to the guy that was getting beat up would you rank that guy higher because he officially won?
No he wouldn't and shouldn't be ranked at all if he's not campaigning there nor does he have any type of body of work there. And, Kotelnik-Alexander wasn't as clear as that fight.
Ring did give the fight to Kotelnik actually. After the fight, Kotelnik's rank jumped up a mile in light of the fact that he was robbed. They however kept Alexander at number 2 because "officially" he "defeated" Kotelnik.
No one writer representing the ring had Kotelnik winning. Not a panel like the Ring has to create it's rankings.

But he is widely belived to have got a gift, i think the ring scored the fight to kotelnik too
i dont think so...

Kotelnik is lucky to be at number 5 imo. I thought he won the fight, but he was landing punches anytime he wanted to and never went to really hurt Alexander.
People feel Kotelnik got robbed, but he got a nice paycheck to go to Alexanders home town. He knew what he had to do and he was content landing safe light punches all night.
Never feel bad for a fighter who goes to someone else's hometown for a paycheck and doesn't go for the kill. You can't tab your way to victory against a champion in there backyard.
Wow this might win the award for dumbest logic and thats saying something

Well Pac would not be rank at all at 154 if he officially lost. Especially since even right now he's not campaigning there. So what would be the point of ranking Pac at all at 154?
Overall is a terrible example. One Alexander-Kotelnik was not as one sided as Pacquiao-Margarito.
Two Pac doesn't have any body of work in that division to be ranked at all if he didn't get a decision against Marg.

yes official judges screw up, but when u have a million ppl with their own opinions, it only makes sense to go with the ppl who were hired and vetted to perform the job. u think everyone at ring magazine thought koltenik won??? not even...
therefore what u have is a situation with numerous opinions. u go with the judges. thats how u hand out belts thats how u rank fighters in the abc's etc. it only makes sense if u wanna be credible.

Thank fuk for someone with common sense.
I cant believe people are actually saying Alexander was the better fighter because the judges scored the fight for him....I mean seriously wtf is goin on here?

They are still ranked in the division just not top 10. How could you have rank someone higher who got destroyed but the judges gave it to him?
