When he fought Pacquiao the first time they had him come in at some weight like 144 or whatever which was devastating for him. It’s funny, you’re body can get to a certain point and t hen just to get that extra one or two pounds off, it’s like crossing the state lines from New York to New Jersey. Maybe it’s only about six feet or ten feet but it changes everything and he said at a certain point, he started off good, but his body just physically collapsed on him.

should have been at full 147lbs
I agree with this also. But if he thought it would affect his performance, he shouldn't have agreed to that weight..
Chances are, if he would have stood firm, the fight woulda been at 147.
Steward is just trying to sell the rematch. I personally dont like the way he is doing it by making excuses. Steward should just say that Cotto is much stronger at 154 and that he has corrected some major flaws he saw from studying the 1st fight.
yep, making up excuses is wrong.
all cotto needs to do is destroy mayorga and margarito and cotto automatically gets a shot at pac.

Exactly.. Also I don't think 1 lb from his previous fight with Clottey made a difference. Cotto didn't have to make 146, but he did.
I see a rematch going the same no matter what weight it's at. Cotto just simply doesn't have the speed or stamina to keep up with Pac.
Stoppage in 8 next time around.

It wasn't the weight, it was the pace of the fight.
Pac forces opponents to fight at past there physical limit. That's why Floyd won't fight him. He knows if push comes to shove, pac will still be here and will be pushing the pace.
No one to blame but Cotto himself. He agreed to the weight and said he felt good and strong on numerous interviews. Of course, he couldn't say "I don't really feel all that great at this weight, but i think I can pull it off."
Only thing that matters is he keep winning and maybe some time down the road try and work out a rematch of sorts at his most comfortable weight. Let Manny move up to fight him next time.
but I guess after the mosley fight if floyd shows interest in facing this catch weight fraud we can expect to hear ; TALK TO MY PROMOTER AND ME NO LIKE OST!!!
Of course he came in weight drained that's the only way duckquiao is gonna fight anyone I been saying that all along ..he drains people ..that's how he's building his fame but when it was time to step up to face martinez he bitc*** out..why didn't he lose a few pounds to face JMM again??? That man whooped him twice badly why didn't he want to fight him??? Instead he choose to fight floyds 3rd leftover in mosley??????
Common man that dude use to get bit.ch slapped in the lower divisions suddenly he moves up in weight lets his opposition get weight drained and now he thinks he can fight??? He's backing up everything I said here by signing the fight with mosley..shame on him and the people defending this catch weight fraud.
If Cotto was weight drain then why does he not do fight night weigh in during the Pac fight or even his previous fights.
Cotto might be 146 but during fight night, his closer to 160.
I don't know...
Nothing showed me during the weigh in or even the fight that the weight had an effect on him. He wasn't looking dry at the weigh in. IMO he probably looked physically at his best.
Pacquiao's power and speed >>>> Cotto's weight
I agree, Cotto looked to me to be in the best shape of his life. Pac rocked him with solid punches and busted him up. Cotto's face gave out on him due to the punches being received.
it was 1 lb less than cotto's last official weight dumb dumb......even calderon can sh1t one lb....
So a person that make weight in the fight before does not struggle to make the same weight the next fight?
Maybe
Nate Campbell
Joan Guzman
Juan Manuel Lopez Struggle to make weight in his last couple fights at 122
Tito struggle to make weight in his last couple fights at 147
Why do you think boxer move up in weight??
lol get the motherfuk outta here.....pacquiao beat cottos azz bloddy!!! cotto lost get ova it cottards hes not an A+ fighter hes more like B fighter....solid above average nothin special....
you say this about every (usually white) fighter
http://www.eatthemushroom.com/mag/article.asp?id=1514&catID=6 this is a link to the whole interview. I think Steward was simply making the point that a catch weight is asked for because it does affect the fighter, some more than others and it is a mental advantage.
Already promoting the pointless rematch at 150-154 I see? :banghead:
Steward must know as well as anyone that Manny stomps Cotto out at any weight, but I guess this will be the selling point for Pac-Cotto II. 'Oh, Miguel was weak at 145 but you'll see, this time it'll be different'... and it'll be more or less the same outcome.
Can't wait.
yep....he's been on the phone with Bob no doubt...
