interesting
But if Bob wants to put boxing back in the mainstream then he should make this fight on CBS to attract ratings and more exposure for casual fans who have been turned off the sport.
Bob Make the fight on CBS I know it won't happen but it would be interesting.
This is a step in the right direction for Boxing. If the right sponsors can get behind some of the cards CBS may air Nationally, I can't see how it'll hurt.
“There is no objection to boxing except for the sense that they believe it is not saleable,” Arum said. “In other words, they can’t get sponsor support. The reason they can’t get it is that it’s like a Catch 22. The reason they can’t get sponsor support is because nobody in the networks knows how to sell it because they haven’t sold it in so long. It’s almost like a self-fulfilling kind of thing.
“Hopefully, we’ll be able here to disprove that, because I believe we’ll get great sponsor support for the Fight Camp 360. That will, I think, reinvigorate them and if there is money, the sales staff gets greedy. Everybody gets greedy.”
Sounds promising... he's dealing with people similar to himself, who are all about the bottomline. If it's a success, it can be a huge step forward for boxing and Arum would get his just due because it was a great move, but he has done incredible damage to the sport already and it would take more than this to reverse it. Hopefully, Pacquiao and Mosley are able to deliver through sponsorship, ratings, sales, and, ultimately, the fight.
Bob is only doing this for his own benefit. He knows CBS has more viewers and most likely he'll get alot more potential buyers for his PPV. Is it good for boxing? Yes it brings in more casual viewers. Which will put more money in Bob's pockets. If he was actually doing it to benefit the sport itself, this fight would be on CBS and not PPV.
It's huge news, and anyone hating on boxing on national television does not care about boxing. This is a huge move.
This isn't huge news. Arum just looking for a way to finance this crap fest of a fight. The only reason the Fight 360 show is going to CBS is so Bob can have the sponsors help pay for this fight. It's 2011. You don't need network television for hype anymore. Boxing's demographic is the 18-30 year old male. Name one show on CBS that caters to that crowd. It's a reason why the NCAA tournament just inked a deal to be expanded to cable networks like TBS and Versus. The reason is the product can now sell itself. There's no need for sponsorship to supplement the costs anymore. So Bob isn't doing anything innovative or nice. Pac's star is getting bigger and thus demanding larger revenue. It's hard to supplement that when you can no longer sell the venue (like Bob did with Dallas stadium) as a reason to tune in, or sell the climb in weight angle they've been using his last few fights. He now has to sell the actual fight. And the actual fight is garbage. That's why he ran to Showtime because they were willing to overpay to have a major name fight under their banner and he was able to gain access to the sponsorship money on their sister network station. It's a win-win for Arum. Not necessarily for the fans.
From a promoter's standpoint, this would be like Mayweather beating Pacquiao or vice versa. Yes, an outstanding payday is involved however as a promoter it is also a matter of legacy. Arum's already in the HOF, but changing the game in terms of promotion and audience would be somewhat historic and good for his legacy. Anyways, it all sounds a little too good to be true, so lets just hope as so frequently is the case.. It doesn't f*ck up.
I am parying this goes through. I would be so happy if it did.
Very true look at the quote Arum said “I would want for nothing more than for my legacy to be that I brought boxing back to network television,” Arum said. “For me, that would supersede any extra money we’d make on this event. More than anything, I want people to say that Bob Arum was able to get it done and get boxing back on network television.”
But I do not know $$$$$$$$$$$$ makes people do crazy things.

It might currently line Arum's pocket directly, but down the line this has the potential to put money in Mayweather and many others in boxing's bank. If Mayweather fights Pacquiao next or after a tune up, there will be a much greater awareness and level of hype. If this venture is a success, and a Mayweather/Pacquiao build up series takes place on CBS.. It will make an already tremendous fight that much bigger.

Thread title is misleading. He's not bringing live boxing back to National television. He's putting an edited, commercial filled, countdown show on CBS. Don't hype it too much.
Did that. But U still get the hype for free & gotta pay for the fight.A fight,(mind U)that has no business on ppv to begin with.
Very true but I just hope everything goes well and CBS and Top Rank can strike up a good relationship together.
