You guys *****ed and moan on here because HBO wasn't making the best possible fights and they were spending too much money on certain fighters like Williams and Berto.
Now that HBO is trying to put together the best possible fights, no more bs fights, and trying to spend their more wisely, a lot of you guys have been dissing HBO.
Sorry, but Arum going to Showtime is a big downgrade from HBO. Showtime doesn't have the boxing budget that HBO has and they don't have 29M subscribers in 150+ countries, etc. Anyone who thinks Arum going to Showtime is a great move is an idiot.
Answer this question for me... Who was the person who didn't want Cotto to fight Martinez? Blame Arum for all of this because Martinez and Cotto wanted to fight each other this year. HBO would've loved to have the fight in March.
Stop your *****ing and stop blaming HBO because it was Arum who didn't want Cotto to fight Martinez.
HBO will be JUST FINE! Actually this will allow HBO to push younger guys like the guys in that 140 division, Short Term...Showtime will probably win but LONG TERM, HBO still have the advantage with the TOP YOUNG FIGHTERS
now this gives them a chance to build up more young fighters like the guys in that 140 division and they still have Sergio Martinez who has the most momentum in boxing right now
How is Dibella piggy backing when he created Sergio from the ground up into one of the best boxing stars?
Being a star amongst hardcore boxing fans doesn't equate to being an attraction. If it did, then Martinez wouldn't be scheduled to fight in a small Connecticut casino. Nor would he have been previously been scheduled to fight in Madison Square Garden's Theater room opposed to the main room, where DiBella knew he'd be lucky to have the place at a quarter of it's capacity.
The reason DiBella wanted Martinez to fight Cotto is not because it's such a great match-up. It's because he knows outside of Pacquiao and Floyd (two fighters Martinez has virtually no chance of fighting) Cotto is the biggest draw in Martinez's weight range. I say DiBella is looking to piggy back on another attraction because of his proposal to buy Arum out of the fight, when it's Arum fighter who's the attraction, knowing Sergio isn't capable of generating millions on his own. The fact that Martinez was even willing to come down to a catch-weight of 155 pounds for the fight, shows you who needed who.
When someone wants to buy you out for 2.5M when they know you have the potential of making millions. Nobody in their right mind would accept 2.5M when they know they can make millions more with PPV sales, live gate, site fee, sponsors, etc.
Without a strong A-side, there are no PPV sales for Sergio Martinez, meager numbers at the gate, smaller site fees, and few sponsors. When someone offers you the biggest payday of your career and you bring little (if any) to the table financially, you should accept it and not be concerned about what the other side stands to gain. As I stated in my previous post, the money generated in a potential Martinez-Cotto fight would be on the strength of Cotto, an attraction created by Top Rank.
Timer Warner also has billions.
The difference is HBO actually has a big budget and Showtime's budget will remain the same. It doesn't matter if CBS has more money because they're not spending it on boxing fights. They can have all the money in the world, but they're not going to spend it on boxing.
If Showtime really wanted to be a player in the boxing business... they could've done that a while ago.
Did you even read the article? Arum was already talking about Showtime-CBS way before the Hatton fight.. Greenburg was almost crying and rejected after Arum finalized the deal with Showtime.
It's the CEO and President of CBS that made an effort with Bob Arum. Not showtime but the President of CBS himself.
The idea was revisited in December 2009, when Arum, Les Moonves (CEO and president of CBS Corporation), and attorney Allen Grubman were vacationing with their wives in Mexico. It percolated while Pacquiao fought Joshua Clottey (March 13th) and Antonio Margarito (November 13th) on HBO-PPV. Then Moonves made an oral presentation to Arum outlining what CBS and Showtime were prepared to offer.
Very true I agree. I think HBO could of probably been more creative with the situation and really talked to Arum. But, Arum is very cranky, sensitive, greedy man.
LMAO !! hahahahahahaha
If DiBella considers Top Rank offering Sergio Martinez more money than he's ever made in a 10+ year career being "pushed around" and "bull****," then Top Rank had good sense to tell them to go **** themselves.
Sergio Martinez, while a fantastic fighter, can't draw flies anywhere on God's Green Earth. The money generated in a potential Martinez-Cotto fight would be on the strength of Cotto, an attraction created by Top Rank.
How does DiBella lose millions in this instance? He doesn't...he makes more money off of a Sergio Martinez fight than he has ever before. You wanna talk about losing millions? Well, Top Rank spent millions of dollars building Cotto up and making him into an attraction, and in recent years have reaped the benefits of the money and time they invested. Maybe if DiBella had been willing to do the same time for his fighters, he wouldn't have to rely on piggy backing on an attraction created by another promoter.

Why should a promoter be pushed around by a crocked and shady promoter? Dibella did the right thing by rejecting Arum's bull**** offer. Arum gave him a bull**** offer and wanted to keep all the money.

No smart business man would've accepted that deal because they would've lost millions by accepting 2.5M upfront.

It wasn't a smart decision for Dibella.
I know how to read. The problem is all of a sudden you changed your stance.
You have a solid offer, a career high payday for Martinez. A chance to beat one of the top names in the game, in a fight Martinez would be favored to win. A victory over Cotto could eliminate one of Pacquiao's future options and insert Martinez as an option. A win over Cotto could also eliminate a Cotto/Margarito rematch and possibly set Martinez up with a rematch with Margarito.
Please explain to me how fighting Dzinziruk for less is a smarter business decision.
It wasn't a smart decision for Dibella. Do you know how to read?
Your post makes no sense. You really think Arum is going to put Martinez in the ring against Pac or Cotto after what he did to Pavlik and Martinez? Lol.
Why would Arum and his company risk damaging Cotto's career and ending his career by putting him in with Martinez? He's not beating and Martinez would end his career. Cotto will beat Mayorga and Margacheato. If Cotto fought Martinez and lost, Martinez would've ruined Arum's plan to put Cotto in the ring against Margacheato in June in NYC and Pac in the fall.
Arum refuses to do any co-promotions with other promoters. He only does business with King. All his top fighters are still fighting TR fighters.

It doesn't really matter because Arum, Pac, and Top Rank will come back running to HBO.
Comeback running? What do you mean? You act like he's not doing business with HBO at all right now?
There are 2 top rank shows on HBO coming up. One just got made official the last couple weeks.
Is like saying Golden boy will comeback running from the Hopkins-Pascal. They didn't go anywhere.
HBO has bigger boxing budget that is true, but Showtime is like that kid with a rich parent (CBS).
While HBO has the bigger budget, Showtime has more resources and if CBS decides to open up more money for boxing......then they have the potential to blow HBO out the water.
Will that happen, I'm not sure, but people are really sleeping on Showtime and their potential in the sport of boxing.
Timer Warner also has billions.

So pretty much, Arum's offer would have given Sergio Martinez the biggest payday of his career. Since Arum's figher is the ticket seller/attraction and Dibella's is neither, I can fully understand Arum balking at Lou's counter proposal. If you ask me, Dibella is just as much to blame for Martinez-Cotto not materializing than Arum is.
Why should a promoter be pushed around by a crocked and shady promoter? Dibella did the right thing by rejecting Arum's bull**** offer. Arum gave him a bull**** offer and wanted to keep all the money.

Berto just fought a stiff for a couple of million and will most likely fight randall bailey. Stepping up my ass.
i cant wait till hbo puts paul williams on the network and rob his opponent of a desision again , lol, nyahahaha
better fights? you mean like putting Zab Judah back on the air after one win on ESPN?
or were you talking about the next time they put Robert Guerrero on? or maybe the next time Juan Diaz fights again? or maybe another featured bout involving Rocky Juarez?
Or why don't they put on JMM-Diaz which was fight of the year last year, or JMM-Katsidas, or Margarito-Mosley, or Maidana-Ortiz, or Litzau-Cabellero, or Martinez-Williams I, or Martinez-Williams II.
Please HBO does way more good work then bad~
