yeah so im from England and dont really understand this whole gig. Is like PPV going to freeview t.v? please explain it will be very greatful. :boxing:
so is showtime more popular then? How come the 24/7 or whatever its gonna be called is going to a much bigger audience?
Or is there a normal non cable channel that owns showtime that will show the 24/7 on free to air tv?
Fighting somebody coming off a great win is not the same as fighting somebody coming off two ugly outings.
coming off a great win 3 months before or even 6 months but almost 2 years is not the same.
its the exact same mosley and you know it when you think about it, its a poor fight match up but I called it when floyd fought him, it will be a loopsided win. mosley is a decent boxer still but cannot mix it up with the elite for a while unless the elite boxer is injured or weight drained like say margarito was?
all i am saying, everyone jumping on their high horse saying hbo wanted more competitive fights, these same people need to realise the guy they back has not had a competitive fight in like 3-4 years
Its not going to make any difference, just a different channel with a different team calling the action.
the only difference is the 24/7 which will boost sales as it will reach over 100m people if they want to watch it
HBO's put forward a strong stance for more competitive fights in boxing.
Al Haymon conceted, leading to bouts such as P. Williams vs Martinez 2 and Jacobs vs Pirog. Whilst, on the Showtime network we got Dirrell vs Abraham and Bika vs Ward.
Goldenboy conceted, leading to bouts such as Marquez vs Katsidis and Maidana vs Khan.
Top Rank weren't willing to abide by HBO's more competitive stance, so they ran with their tails between their legs to Showtime.
Showtime combining with CBS is great for boxing though, but it's a shame we get two **** and disgraceful fights as the product of it.
Was mayweather vs hatton @ 147
mayweather vs marquez @146
mosley @ 147 competitive fights?
no you idiot
OHH thnx for clearing that up guys much appreciated. this could only be good for boxing couldnt it? more competition = better quality doesnt it?
yes its good for boxing but flomos are just somehow are trying to use this situation to benefit themselves
they are complaining about toprank not putting on competitive fights while ignoring the fact, their lovers last 3 fights was against hatton at 147, marquez at 146 and the same mosley pac is fighting at 147
yup, the irony is funny
Hbo usually supports star fighter,so they emphasize a stars name 1st & foremost.
Showtime concentrates on matchups more,so you usually get up'n comers in much better fights cause all men are trying to make a name for themselves. Then hbo comes along & offers more money, then the fights turn crappy.

No ppv is not going to free tv it is just going to a new network in Showtime. HBO has mainly dominated PPV Boxing now for years but Showtime now really wants to become the best network for televising Boxing with the addition of their Super Six Super Middleweight Tournament and their Bantamweight Division tournament. It is great for Boxing in which two very powerful networks are both competing to televise the Best Boxing.

HBO and Showtime are the 2 biggest Premium TV Networks in the United States. They are the 2 primary outlets for boxing in the US as well. In recent years all of the biggest PPV fights have been produced and distributed by HBO, and Showtime has stayed out of the PPV arena. Cotto/Mayorga and Pac/SSM will be produced and distributed by Showtime.
The fight is still a PPV it will just be produced and distributed by Showtime instead of HBO. It's not that big of a deal, especially to non-boxing fans. It's still gonna cost $60...
Both are paid channels on cable that show boxing
HBO is the big boy showing the biggest fights usually and have pretty much all PPV's
They are just competing cable channels basically
