HBO did boxing a favor by not showing Cotto-Mayo and Pac-Mosley.
EVERYONE on this site gets on HBO for their fights but when they turned down these 2 scraps they were wrong.
Funny.
If Floyd fights Spadafora as a come back fight do you think HBO should televise it?

If we leave it up to Bob Arum Pacquaio's next fights after mosley will be against.....Cotto, Clottey,Margarito and anybody Mayweather defeats for...
diamond belts.
Don't blame HBO's stupidity and Bob Arum's manipulation on Martinez.
1) If HBO wanted to they could have accommodated both sides and had a split site doubleheader or even try to put them as co-main events in the same arena.
2) The fight Arum wanted to put on HBO is Cotto-Martorisyan, few were actually interested in watching a Vanes fight, but Arum only wanted him because he's the only TR fighter that was a viable and available opponent for him. That turd thinks he's entitled to sh!t.
3) TR has been flirting with this for the last how many Pacquiao PPV's? I'm not mad at the move though because this sh!t is potentially great for boxing.
A double header with Cotto and Martinez is far too expensive. No way could they do it.
Cotto-Vanes is a decent scrap. An undefeated olympian held in high regard in the boxing world? better than Mayorga. And half the people in this thread think the Mayorga fight was the one Arum tried to sell to HBO and it's not. Cotto-Vanes for 1.5 million? That's a bargain, Cotto usually makes more than that on his on. They put up like 3.5 million for the Foreman and Clottey fights. Mayorga was the choice once it had to be put on PPV because he can sell...it's quite simple.
Totally agree with your last point. This breeds competition. It's good for nobdy if HBO monopolizes the sport. It's great to see Showtime become a big time player again.
Hbo is tired of Bob ducking the Mayweather fight. They want pac or Cotto against mayweather and nobody else. They now realize that Bob just won't do fights with Goldenboy or Mayweather.
So in the words of HBO ( **** toprank and there fighters.
Props to the split site idea.
That would have been bad ass HBO boxing. Martinez/Sergei in the first bout and Cotto/Vanes in the 2nd. Both very meaningful fights...especially if both Martinez and Cotto won it'd be an excellent showcase against two undefeated good fighters. HBO is a ****ing fool and they lost out....for bull**** with Andy Lee. So stupid.
If HBO really told him to fukk off with this uncompetitive(On Paper) fight then color me surprised. I'd really have to give them props for not following the money. That's just too hard to believe.
Firstly, I can see both sides of the coin on this one. I understand HBO not wanting to put up with crap fights, but they are going about this the wrong way. I understand their "change of policy" but they are doing it with such a horrific track record its hard to take them seriously. How the hell can they pass on Pac/Mosley, when they bought Mosley/Mora just last year, or Marquez/Diaz II on PPV? Lets also not forget that Berto himself asks for a million dollars for fighting bums, and he ends up asking for 50% to fight Cotto?
However, I understand that they don't want to have fights where one fighter is simply there to be spoon fed to the other. However, you also can't go about that simply giving names YOU'VE built and then simply letting them go to a rival network. Its fine when a fighter is still young and they can bounce around networks, but when someone is an established name like both Manny and Cotto you don't do that. Thats essentially what happened with LeBron, sure the he made his name with the Cavs, but the owners kind of took it for granted. HBO must be thinking Manny isn't **** without HBO, because Manny is above HBO now, most of the time people go to HBO to watch BOXING, now people are going to HBO to watch Manny and whether the fights on Showtime, ESPN, HBO, PPV or the Disney channel people are going to follow. Essentially HBO's "no playing games" attitude just cost them $25 million plus possible another $5-10 million for the Cotto fight.
I'm sorry, but as someone stated a double header with Sergio and Cotto on PPV would have sold no matter the opponents. You have the KO/FoTY and Cotto on the same card thats got to be at least 500k buys, which last time I saw was 5x's more than Mosley drew and you just built up Sergio a bit more as well as Cotto all on one night. One more thing I want to say, PPV isn't that expensive if you just get a group of people together. 5 people alone makes it $10 a head, for $10 I'd pay to watch Cotto/Marg there aren't many things I can do more fun that watching that for $10.

At first my problem with that decision was that they had sure fire solid fight in Cotto-Vanes. Yet they did the same mistakes that they always do in picking so and so fighter(in this case Martinez) and promising him a date when his opponent is TBA.
Stuff like that doesn't make any sense to me.
I also didn't like that it didn't occur to anybody in HBO to go talk to Arum. Because, Dibella would have been down with it. To try and convince Arum to do a split site show. Where Dibella do his thing with Martinez in the East Coast, Arum does his thing with Cotto-Vanes in Vegas. You send the HBO B.A.D. crew to Vegas and you send the HBO WCB boxing to the Martinez show and you host it as a double header featuring both Martinez and Cotto.
My whole thing was why promise a fight to somebody who didn't have a set opponent.
But, since Martinez-Dzinziruk got signed it is the better match up. And, that is the fight that I will be watching for free instead of the Cotto-Mayorga fight.
i agree it is the better match up but i never miss a cotto fight. The martinez fight will have aired 5 times by sunday night so i'll make sure to catch it after i watch cotto.
its ashame hbo couldnt think things through a little better though
i dont know the money but all these people praising hbo forget that Vanes is who Arum wanted not mayorga originally. and everyone can agree that Cotto vs Vanes would have been a pretty meaningful fight

supposedly they are asking Berto to do the samething either a step up fight or no fight date and at least wait for Berto to announce his next opponent before you complain. another thing why are all of you against Berto making 900k fighting with Hernandez but be upset that HBO refused to pay Cotto 2+ million to fight mayorga
Stop living on Fantasy World.. Arum offered Cotto vs Vanes/Mayorga for 1.5 milliond\ dollars and HBO rejected it.. Arum was upset since Cotto got the highest rating for HBO in 2010
That is wrong.
It was 1.5mil not 2+mil.
And, it wasn't against Mayorga it was against Vanes.
i dont know the money but all these people praising hbo forget that Vanes is who Arum wanted not mayorga originally. and everyone can agree that Cotto vs Vanes would have been a pretty meaningful fight
Lol this article is funny.
Cotto vs Mayorga is not a 'decent' fight.
And no hardcore boxing fan in their right mind, will pay for Mayorga-Cotto and not watch Martinez-Dzinziruk which will be televised on HBO. But I mean even if Cotto vs Mayorga is going to be televised on Showtime, who's gonna watch that fight over Marinez the 2010 FOTY/KOTY winner vs Undefeated Dzinziruk?
Arum is acting like a big baby and he is not bigger than HBO.
all true. and how can anyone be upset at hbo for that fight? its legit and a much better fight than cotto/mayorga
no its because they refused to put these one sided fights and Arum's recycling fights and over protecting his guys
you have to respect HBO for that
but yet they still pay millions for berto to fight bums lol
