Rewatched some of his old fights and I totally forgot how fast and strong he was in his prime. I think it's a shame that people only remember for his losses, especially to Floyd and Manny. In his prime he would have definitely beat them. And he was clearly robbed against Trinidad IMO.
He took on all challenges, despite losing to some. That's something that people should appreciate. The hate that he gets from people, especially from Mexicans, is surprising. He was a great fighter in the ring.
Oscar is my all time favorite.
It just sucks how he ended his career.. inactivity, different trainers every fight, then being a business man first then boxer.
But definitely a hell of a fighter
Oscar is the man. An absolute warrior who would always fight the best and a terrific ambasador for the sport, he's one of the guys that initially got me into boxing.
DeLaHoya would have beaten Mayweather and Pacquiao in his prime, imo.
that whole 'he lost all his big fights' thing is completely overrated. he exactly did he lose to again in his prime? Hopkins? oh yes, very embarressing.
and though he lost to Mosley, a lot of people think he deserved the win in the rematch.
yes he was, cant anybody deny that....and his loss to floyd aint really that bad coz it was just an SD while he was past his best....
Just because the judges gave Floyd a SD doesn't mean that's how you scored the fight. Floyd clearly won the fight by UD because he won at least 8 rounds and DLH got a few rounds because of his activity.
People need to stop saying he lost all his big fights. He beat a prime Mosley on PEDS and schooled the **** out of Tito. He was already way past his prime when he fought Floyd and Manny and the only reason why he fought them was because it was a great business decision for him and his company. He wasn't even a part time boxer when he fought them.
Here some logic,ok ,let agree, say Oscar was half the great fighter he was in his earlier days when he fought manny, but manny distroyed him, but Oscar still had some of his fast jab and left hook ,so say Oscar was not weight drain and was the whole package,so since he was distroyed would the fight be draw as in both even ?but even then add this manny is twice a better fighter than 3years ago.
Oscar was smart he was a fake right handed .he had his best left hand closer to you.best hard jab and don't futt around and forget about it he can still bring it back into the right side of your jaw,LOL....:pat:
Yeah,Oscar was a true fvcking savage in his day.I'll never forget the clinic he was putting on Tito before the 10-12.That was some great boxing right there.I wonder how would his career have looked had he not been jarred vs Tito.
Oscar was one bad son of a gun! But most of these guys posting here didn't watch boxing in the mid 90's through '04. After B-hop Oscar was done! Even in his 06 win over Mayorga Oscar wasn't the same Oscar that would bounce on his toes and throw flurries and move around like he used to....that 12th round of Oscar-Quartey was epic!
give people time and they'll be back to talking about that handsome lightweight with a bomb in his left hand that took on EVERYBODY and looked great doing it
oscar had the style to beat both pacquiao and mayweather
he fought them after too many hard fights (and in manny's case, after he murdered himself making welterweight)
his jab would have busted both guys up in his prime and he'd likely win on the scorecards
nobody who knows anything about boxing is going to make much an argument against that
oscar was an absolute beast
agree 100%
