For his own good?
Would you let him carry on until he's brain damaged (or more brain damaged, if that's what you think ).
At what point is is irresponsible to let a fighter carry on?
its probably 100% safer him fighting than anyone on this forum he needs money let him do what he wants a gave up on him retiring just gotta follow him to the end valuev was the fairytale ending but got taken away from him and he wouldnt of retired anyway a think he will get stripped of his liceince in the next 3years
We all know Evander shouldn't be fighting anymore.
But I also think it's his life and health and he can ruin it if he so desires.
Another question, though, is why boxing commissions are still licensing him.
He was refused a license to box in New York State awhile back because
he wasn't competitive in a previous fight.
It seems to me that any responsible boxing commission might think Evander shouldn't be in the ring any longer.
The key word there being "responsible."
It's that a criteria, then Holyfield should be licensed; he did win his last fight...
I think it's ridicilous when so called "fans" call for guys like Holyfield, RJJ etc etc to retire... Yeah they are shot beyond belief, old and risk hurting themselves... But they are grown men perfectley capable of making their own decisions. I assume they need the money, so let them make it by boxing if thats what they want... Would you rather see ole Holyfield flipping burgers at McD's? Boxing is his way of making a living... Personally I could't care less if he fought till he was 50 or more, it's his own choice...
I'd rather see him in McDonalds......alive in 5 years time. I'm dam sure we all would should the worst happen. People too easily forget what EH quality of could be post retirement if he carries on (even if he was to hang them up now ffs). Don't presume it's all about money because it's not always about money. These guys are deluded, they have been in the sport so long they can give it up and run themselves into the ground. It's sad and we as fans have a responsibility not to buy or watch these guys because it just gives them reasons to continue. It's a sad sad side to the sport IMO.
Maybe he just didn't want to sign your autograph...Damn I met him last Thursday in LA at the WSB event. I asked for his autograph. He looked at my Media Pass, looked at me, looked at the pass, looked at the glove, looked at me, looked at the pass again, and this **** went on for about 40 seconds.
My point, the dude is past punch drunk. Yes he the RIGHT to make a living, and if he passes a medical exam he is cleared to fight. But damn man the dude I feel is about 5 - 6 punches away from being a veggie. Look at for the fighters safety please.
And no I did not get my autograph...and he kept my marker. #C'monSon
It s a tricky one.
Of course none of us want to see Evander Holyfield get hurt. And some of us even want our marker pen back. But what we've got to appreciate is that it is his choice of career, and that he isn't content with flipping burgers like Leon Spinks was. Now It's not for me to say if I think EH has money problems and it's none of my business, but that aside I agree with the posters who have stated that it's his choice to continue to box, so let's just hope that he doesn't take too many big hits that will cause him brain damage in later life. Perhaps this is the curse of boxing?
Evander says he's going to keep fighting until he wins another major title but the HW champs aren't gonna give him a chance to fight for a major title anyway.
fact is as of late he has been winning,he is a grown ass man and will step aside when he wants 2.Its not like hes fighting true Hws these are guys he would have iced in 3 rds in his prime.
(steps aside) :*(

I don't think Evander can even wipe his own ass cheeks by himself anymore, let alone make a grown up decision. LOL!
Give me my ****in' marker back HOLYFIELD!

Thanks. This is my point exactly.
Listen to interviews with Evander these days, he's definitely different to 15 years ago.
Does the boxing industry have a responsibility to save Evander Holyfield from himself?

It is hard to take it away from him because he got a right to make a living. But I do think someone close to him should talk him into retiring for his own good.
Evander is not anyone elses property and he can do what he pleases with his own life and body.
He won his last fight and (in my opinion) solidly defeated Nikolay Valuev.
If he can beat a world champion, why shouldn't he be allowed to fight?
