It's just insane how a bar brawler was able to beat a skilled boxer twice. That fourth round where he was daring Forrest to hit him was just madness, he took Forrest's soul and made him realize that he couldn't hurt him. Definitely Forrest's nightmare. (RIP)

Not really.
I don't know why people think the more skilled fighter always wins.
It's all about getting your opponent to fight your type of fight. Mayorga pretty much forced Forrest into a brawl and then proceeded to annihilated him.
If Vernon had better ring generalship I doubt that would have happened.

Mayorga did to Forrest what Forrest did to Mosley. In the rematch, Forrest had too much respect or feared Mayorga, to make a good fight out of it.
Mayorga got a gift decision against Forrest the second time around. No possible way you could have scored more than five rounds in his favour.Once Forrest settled down, regained his balance after looking so terrified in the early going,he consistently landed the cleaner punchers down the stretch.
I bet the same people who thought Mayorga won also thought he won the fourth round - based on some little silly macho stunt he pulled very late in the round.
Mayorga has this really weird fanbase. He can get decisively beaten by someone like Corry Spinks and they'll try and argue that he won that one clearly. They even think that he was winning the Mosley fight, too - despite the fact that he did f^ck all but hug Mosley after the third round.
I watched Margo vs Forrest and Lewis 1 and 2, and the Tito fight today. Besides the Lewis 1 NC. All these fights were exciting. Mayorga had a nice run. But the first thing that popped in my head was Mayorga vs Margo at 147 at there best
by chance i just finishing watching mayorga-forrest I today. what a wild fight and a suprise to see the unorthodox brawler to beat a skilled boxer!
second fight forrest deserve to win imo. mayorga won d first 5 rounds n round 10 being close to even...forrest found his rhythm n beat tis crazy man in d rest of d rounds.
unfortunatly forrests title reign was short just like his life. underappreciated fighter back then, who many avoided in his time..great boxer !
r.i.p champ!
I was watching this fight like month ago. Yeah it's pretty crazy how simple brawler beat by points skilled boxer. Mosley lost to Forrest because he was trying to box VF, second fight was mostly jabbing each other. VF's jab was easily backing up SSM, everytime Mosley would jump Forrest was jabbing or countering him with right hand. But Mayorga was able to beat VF, because he wasn't afraid to eat Forrest's punches to land his own. Vernon lost his confidence, because on his several jabs and right hand on Ricardo's granite chin, Mayorga was answering with heavy punches.
just watched forrest vs mayorga l
easily the funniest postfight interview ive ever seen
larry: between rounds you said this guy really hits hard, did he hurt you in the second round?
mayorga: he hit me, but i was fighting a clown. i didnt knock him out in the first round because my corner told me to take it easy.
then larry hands him a cigarette and he starts smoking in the ring
lmao

interestingly like Cotto, forrest was having problems with his right shoulder, hmmm?
I haven't seen that fight in awhile.
But, I remember thinking that I though Forrest deserved the decision. Or at least having a case of winning the fight.
