Do some Mexican's feel like DLH became to Americanized and is a sell out? I remember before he fought Chavez it seemed like all the Mexicans rooted for Chavez. I've heard people like Vargas call DLH a fake Mexican. I believe Oscar fought Vargas after he was KO by Trinidad, hmmm...that sounds just like what another current boxer is doing:lol1: Anyway, do some in the Mexican community feel like DLH doesn't embrace Mexican culture, if so is that the reason for the contempt?
1. People hate on him cuz he beat Chavez
2. He's good looking guy (no homo)
3. Last he is Rich
We latinos should be proud one of us of us made it. He came from the poor streets of east los now look at him. I hate to say it but there is a lot of latinos that hate on there own.
It's not that difficult to figure out:
DLH was born in the US, represented the US as an amateur, and fought all his pro fights in the US = American. Even his autobiography which he wrote after retirement is titled "American son".
A fighter that represents a foreign nation is never going to be fully embraced like one of their own. Even a Cuban fighters like Napoles was embraced by the Mexican public because they actually fought there.
this is true, it had nothing to do with the "pretty boy" image, mexicans are huge nationalist, you either represent mexico fully or don't represent them at all with the whole "mexican american" thing. Not only that but many mexicans felt disrespected after the 2nd fight with chavez when he did his body gestures to the whole crowd.

Hate is a strong word but Oscar lost alot of respect when he beat their hero and icon Julio Chavez.
Also the rich pretty boy image contrasts the tough warrior image that many associate alot of the great Mexican fighters of the past.
And this post show just how much of an idiot you really are.I suggest you go look up the rankings of the time and look who Leonard fought before he ever got his first shot at a world title.
Wilfred Benitez was the easiest champion of the division? Ayub Kalule was the easiest champion of his division? Marvin Hagler was the easiest champion of his division? :lol1:
Settle the f^ck down,lad.
Leonard wanted nothing to do with Pipino Cuavas so he chose Bentiez who had far less power, Kaule wasn't that good, Hagler was on a down slide at that time plus he lost that fight to Hagler, So don't come on quoting me like your some boxing genious cause I watch boxing back in those days you retard
Which means, he wasn't playing the "I am so humble," sad-faced Mexican cliche. He smiled and looked too happy. He also didn't fool himself into thinking that being a man is acting like a 16 year cholo like Vargas.
But the truth is, he exposed Chavez.
lol yeah he exposed a past his prime legend. Oscar wished he was half the boxer Chavez was
Maybe that is why i admire him and respect him, because I can identify with him in many aspects.
yeah i bet you could identify with him in this aspect as well...
I think the guys been through a lot and he's fought really well while in his prime, always a good boxer and willing to go toe to toe.. but he got a lot of hate off of the Chavez fight cause that was a passing of the torch of a legend, and also got a lot of **** for running against trinidad although he had the fight won, thats not what a "mexican fighter blood and guts warriors does... lol just ask margarito.. lol but that is what we are taught to go full force or not at all..
Beating chavez played a part, but ultimately losing most of the big fights (despite the constant promotion/hype), and he didn't have a spitting image of a mexican warroir. He was too good looking, and soft spoken...just plain gay.

cause dlh is a tranny
Because DLH is not Mexican enough.
Ugh he's an American actually and thats the answer to the Thread Starters question. Mexicans arn't fond of Americans Period!
Because he was an American first.
He represented Mexico when the fans got behind him and it was to his benefit, but even before the Chavez fight the Mexican fans weren't too interested in him.
Remember most Mexican and Mexican-American are poor and working class people and identify with the fighters that represent that life style. Oscar didn't just have the hollywood looks, he really enjoyed the spotlight and crossed over into the mainstream almost immediately. To Mexican fans, he wasn't "theirs" and didn't represent them anymore.
Jim Lamply said it best in that, while they still didn't consider Oscar one of them, Mexican-American fans "borrowed" Oscar to represent Mexico against PR when he faced Trinidad. He let em down bigtime.
Oscar reminded me of a Black Olympian fighter fight bums till you get a title shot than look for the eaisest champ of every divison. Ray leonard and Mayweather took this pattern also.

DLH is hated by haters because of his good looks.
Because DLH is not Mexican enough. Vargas is more Mexican than Oscar because he is a gangster, and Margacheater is more Mexican because he left his native Torrence, California to live in Mexico and therefore don't know english. Oscar is a nice guy with good looks, had a better fefense than most Mexican fighters, and was a media darling and Mexicans don't approve of that! Just an observation...
