He was kind of famous at CW and he made some money but it is undoubtful that he made most of his money at HW after he talked a lot of trash and promised to fight the Klitschkos. I mean when he first got on the scene at HW he had to give 2 for 1 tickets for Barrett ffs and still had to put up curtains in the back to hide all the empty seats, and that was only 3 fights ago.
He didn't fight any serious competition and basically fought joke fights at HW, if you can call them that. Now after all the talk and faked back injuries he says he is retiring and is content that he has not faced a Klitschko. Wasn't that the reason all the Brits went ape sh*t over him to begin with, only because he accosted Wlad at a charity event and made some t-shirts about Vitaly and Wlad?
How do Brit fans of his reconcile the fact that Haye has been promising to fight them for three years and is now retiring without fighting one of them, pulling out of fights with Wlad and Vitaly?
For a man of his fame(within Britain) and wealth,he's one of the most undeserving champions of recent memory.
I'll give him credit for managing to create the level of interest in a heavyweight division that hasn't been since Lewis fought Tyson, but his actions over the last year and a half have proven that he's all talk and no walk.
I voted Yes by mistake.
I wouln't even know who he was if it wasn't for a youtube vid I watched about 3 2 or years ago of him calling out the klitchkos and claiming to wash out the HW division.
His best fight was against Marcianelli ffs.
"(I am either a Klitschko hater or British)"
SMH. I'm british and i like the Klitschko's, but some of Wlad's fanboys are annoying.
I think Haye would be rich and famous anyway - he's still the best british heavyweight by far, achieved a lot at CW, and his exciting knockout style makes him very popular with the public. But he certainly wouldn't be as famous as he is now.
A lot of people don't like the klitschko's, and saw Haye as the guy who could end their run, and that boosted his popularity (and made him many fans in the USA).
Im British and i just cant defend this guy. All he has done for nearly 3 years is talk. If he retires without facing the Klitschko's he will go down as one of the biggest frauds in British boxing history and would be a laughing stock of the world...
