How different do you things would be now? Would of JMM KO'd Diaz and got the Oscar fight @ 147lb? Would of Manny & JMM had a trilogy? Would Manny have just stayed at 135lb and fight the likes of Soto, Katisids, Cas?
How do you think things would of planned out?
I do think fighting diaz was a way to have a breather from marquez.
I think another what if question should be "what is DLH never handed over the fight to pac?" Oscar stated he wanted cotto n margs which clearly was not the case due to the fights he ended up taken with much smaller fighters instead.
sure pac would still be successful, as he was already successful before moving up. but he would not have faced the names without oscar thats for sure!
dun think he wouldn't be playin around the WW division. he would have been forced to take more legitimate fights around the lightweight division or we would have already seen a third fight with marquez.
but the only reason why the fight was handed over to Pac was because of DLH's fear of Margarito (at the time). Cotto beating Margarito would have led to : Cotto vs. Oscar De La Hoya
and Cotto would have been in the position Pacquiao is now, and we would be talking about how Mayweather is ducking Cotto. :lol1:
but i agree. Manny would have ruled the lightweight division along with Marquez, leading a trilogy or even a fourth fight between the two!
oh well... coulda, shoulda, woulda
^^^^this.
Manny would have moved up to 135 to fight David Diaz, regardless of the outcome that night. Oscar De La Joto would have been terrified of Margarito and the "dream match" would have occurred .
but fast forward to 2011, and we have Pacquiao vs. Marquez III
the what if question should really be: "what if cotto beat margarito?"
Oscar's plan was to fight Cotto, before Cotto suffered that horrific beating. And who wanted a part of Margarito at the time? ...surely not Oscar, and Manny Pac got the fight instead :blackeye:

if he got d decision (he deserved both fights imo!) he would have been considered the best fighter in the world. and things would have been put into perspective!
no way pac has the same career, cuz for starters DLH would have never had fought him. as a result we have seen boxing turn into a circus held at gun point with all these bizzare head scrathcin match up$.
pac should have done everything marquez did..but chased fame over legacy instead. and if that means pac being 'smart' and 'rich' good for him...but last I checked you don't rate fighters by how much money you make in a career or how big you are but what legacy you leave behind!
pac will go down as an atg but he has lost a ton of respect to many fans and legacy has been tarnished within the boxing world.
i got more respect for jmm who fights for boxing and the fans while pac fights for his bank account.
