Cherry-picking. Manny's being accused of doing it, so was Floyd when he was on top. But is it a fair Criticism? When you're approaching the end of your career, I think most fighters start to think about their future outside of boxing. When you're young and hungry, you're out to destroy everyone who gets in your way just make a name for yourself. But what happens after you hit the pinnacle of the sport? Everyone you fight from then on is going to be an underdog. So what do you do? I think most fighters will go for the money. Agree?
maybe if your old...but when your still young n considered the best in the world, consider yourself GOAT and are in the peak or your career it's pretty weak!
If HBO allowed him to do it, Martinez would be fighting Andy Lee.
Martinez wasn't gonna fight Dzin or Pirog as he said no one knew who they were and didn't bring any money to the table. That is why they were pushing for Lee instead so please cut the sh1t and stop trying to ignore facts to fit an agenda.
Martinez is no different than anyone else.
There we go again, this time don't put words in my mouth though, but lets begin. Please tell me what facts I ignored.I said hbo was willing to approve Dzinziruk but not much else,I never said that's who he wanted to fight.Martinez isn't different from anyone else, the only thing is though that hbo did their job(finally) & made a top fighter fight good competition. They haven't done that with Berto,Pacman,or Floyd.I ain't fitting anything for my agenda, team Pacman chose Mosley, over more credible fighters atm, period, holla back,I'm here.
once you get to the top, you need to start making money. that's what everyone does.
no one fights tough fight after tough fight. even the old timers like joe louis and SRR fought bums inbetween bigger fights. sometimes there just isn't anyone good in your division like bhop at 160 lbs.
however, if all you do is fight mismatches *cough* rjj *cough* wifebeater jr *cough* that is wrong.
Dont forget *cough* Pacman!!!
yea but a bit better than kotelnik
More power, Martinez is not cherry picking, it is the fight that HBO wanted and I think for the options out there this is one of the better names to face.
Sturm is busy, Pirog said he is fighting in Rusia, Angulo can't fight (and don't want it), Pavlik has alcohol problems, Cotto just came off of surgery and is busy fighting, JCC jr doesn't want it even if he is the mandatory and Kirkland is not ready.
Not saying its ok, but I understand. As a fan, I'd love to see Floyd and Pac fight tough fights, but Why risk the legacy they've created? What do they have to prove? That they're the best? Truth is, there's only 1 fight both guys need to make. Until then, I ain't hating either guy trying to make that money.
Martinez is 5-10,he went up in weight & beat the lineal titlist, just because a fighter doesn't have that much exposure in America doesn't mean he's garbage though, that's just ridiculous.Besides that was the only fight that hbo approved correct??It's not like Martinez chose him himself correct??So it isn't the same as team Pacman choosing Mosley now is it??

They do it cause they can
Hopkins cherry picks.
Didnt go near, Dawson and jumped straight to Pascal after Dawson lost.
I Agree totally....they do this same type of thing with a lot fighters and call it "match-making"
dont get why people like to use the term cherry picking so much. shiit it aint like all professional boxers have a contract list of boxerss their suppose to fight. how is this cherry picking? just because manny is not fighting someone u want him too??????
That last part is spot on. Cherry picking = A term used because a fighter is not fighting someone they want him too.
Sad part is these dudes aren't fans to begin with so why do they even care.

Quoted for truth.
Dzinziruk is a solid fighter with no exposure, his inactivity might affect him. He is like a bigger version of Kotelnik
yea but a bit better than kotelnik
Whoever Dzinziruk is at Middleweight. :D
he's not a bum,you obviously don't know what you are talkin about,i rather see pacquiao fight dzinzurik than mosley
I think it is okay to cherry pick at any stage in your career. Who you fight is your business.
I have an overall idea of what I think but I can't put it into words so I'll dive straight into the main point. When a fighter is up and coming or trying to make a name for himself he will chase fights as they're essentially chasing money and the fans recognition. You will seldom see them cherry pick.
The fighters you see cherry picking are the ones who can make money through fighting crap fights and already have the medias attention. In some sense you can say that it is the fruits of their hard labour as fighters like Pacquiao and Mayweather busted their ass off early in their career. In some cases it annoys me, usually when the fighter receives too much hype when they have accomplished little, Berto, Alvarez, and Chavez jr spring to mind you can throw Haye and Khan in the mix too.
Anyway the main point I'm getting at is it is the fans fault. You can't bash cherry picking yet buy the pickers fights in favour of fighters who consistently take on the toughest opposition.
Every fighter chooses some lesser fights every so often. It's nothing new. Pac's always been an ambitious fighter, but right now he's biding his time. Given his recent run, that isn't a crime.
Sounds like an excuse to me.But do U really think that Pacman or Foyd would always be favored??Lets say,if Pacman decided to defend that 154lb strap he won from Margarito against sayyyyyyyyyy Martinez,do U think it'd be wise to favor Pacman??
floyd would.as great as some people make manny out to be they always seem to be worried and always seem to think there is a possibility he could lose look at the margo fight margarito is a slow bum with less than mediocre skills yet he was still given a chance by alot of people just because he was big

He's a 34 year old european fighter who hasn't had much exposure in the US. He is undefeated though.
