Thoughts. Opinions. Tell me the whole story of the fight if you like.
(To be clear, this is the Floyd of the Gatti days against Taylor when he was pre-Chavez. Maybe even up to round 12 of Chavez I.)
I'm not sure there are enough of these fantasy fights on here; too many "modern superstar vs modern superstar" threads for my liking. I included one here to wean people off though.
Floyd picks him apart, probably would be similar to how the Judah fight went. Why?Taylor and Judah are two completely different boxers. Zab is one of the best fighters in the world for 4 rounds until he has his mental breakdowns, so i wouldn't say it was Mayweather "adjusting". Taylors hands were much faster than Judahs, he was much busier and had great condition. That comparison is off. I highly recommend watching Taylor vs Mgirt, he was at his best.
Mayweather fighting Taylor like he did against Judah would be giving Taylor is greatest chance of victory.Taylor was far too fast, far too busy and far too consistent to fight at close quarters.Mayweather could time him with the right hand, but it took someone like Terry Norris to really discourage and hurt Taylor.Mayweather simply doesn't have that type of power.
If Mayweather wins,it will be through footwork and distance.Meldrick Taylor really needed to have his feet set to really be effective;when an opponent maintained distance and boxed him(Taylor) from the outside, they'd cause him alot of problems.Due to such a short reach,Taylor would often find himself lunging and reaching for opponents who fought him this way
Probably a fight that would see Taylor enjoy a strong start, with Mayweather eventually making the correct adjustments and winning a competitive but clear decision.
TNT had faster hands and activity levels than Floyd. He would have given Floyd all he could handle and unlike Zab Judah he wouldn't just stop fighting and watch.
With that said, Floyd is a master boxer and he would have figured out Taylor after a few rounds, walked him down and won a UD.
My own personal pick would be a little like a rerun of the Judah fight, but with Floyd taking just that little bit more time to work out Taylor because Taylor's sounder technically than Judah, leading to a razor-thin decision for TNT. But then again, I've just watched the full Floyd-Marquez fight on youtube over again and it's hard to go against Floyd over anyone. But I'll stick with Meldrick here.
Meldrick Taylor
I think Taylor would have won, he has speed and knows how to box, he stood toe to toe with chavez and pretty much beat him the whole fight except the last 2 or 3. Meldrick will rough up mayweather, look what was going on with zab vs mayweather. zab was beating mayweather to the punch and the beggining of the fight.
